  • Trio in all-star matches

    A trio of Lancaster County high school soccer stars will be in the state spotlight as they play in the annual North South All-Star soccer matches Saturday.
    Indian Land’s Bailey Penegar and Katherine Kilroy will play for the North team in the girls all-star match, while Lancaster High’s Zeke Williams will play for the North boys.
    Both matches will be played at Rock Hill’s District Three Stadium on Cherry Road.
    The girls match is at noon, with the boys contest set for a 2:15 p.m. kickoff.

  • Rain a pain for P-31 baseball...

    Lancaster Post 31 American Legion baseball has been plagued by wet weather this week.
    Post 31, 2-2 on the season, had two game halted due to rain.
    On Tuesday, Lancaster was at Fort Mill for a League V game with host Post 43 and play was washed out in the third inning with the home team on top, 7-1.
    On Wednesday, a late afternoon thunderstorm canceled play at Eggleton Field.
    Lancaster was slated to face Rock Hill Post 34 at home, but the storm halted the action before the opening pitch.

  • Dixie Softball stars set for...

    Lancaster County Parks and Recreation girls softball all-star teams will open play in the Dixie Softball District 2 tournament at Lancaster’s Springdale Park this weekend.
    Lancaster County will field three all-star teams – Darlings (ages 7-8), Angels (ages 9-10) and Ponytails (ages 11-12).
    u The Lancaster County Darlings all-stars are led by coach Gene Knight. He is assisted by Garrett Plyler, Darrell McManus and Chris Timmons.
    The Darlings stars open play Saturday at noon when they face Chester.

  • Lancaster Piranhas fall in home...

    The Lancaster Piranhas fell to 1-2 on the season after dropping a 335-243 loss to the Lake Wylie Gators at home on Monday.
    Lancaster, in the loss, was led by Amelia Wright, Samuel Page and Alaina Houghtaling who had three firsts each.
    Bristol Glenn, Titus Trammell, Isabella Thorpe, Charlee Brooke Henry and Tamra Tipton each posted two wins in the meet.
    Single winners included Alex Trimnal, Mallory McDow, Rose Ellis, Ryder Lucas, Will Wilson, Tyler Tipton and Matt Prete.
    Lancaster visited River Hills on Thursday in Metrolina League swim meet action.

  • SECA Crate Late Models, Late...

    Lancaster Super Speedway, coming off one of its top racing nights of the 2016 season, will feature the SECA Crate Late Models and Late Models racing together Saturday night.
    This combination is an idea LSS owner Doug McManus has been considering as some of the Late Model drivers have asked him to do this due to the SECA Crate Late Models and Late Model times are similar.
    The admission prices are $25 for the pits and $12 for the grandstands. Pit gates open at 4 p.m. and 5 for grandstands.

  • Piranhas post first swim win

    The Lancaster Piranhas posted their first swim win in the Metrolina League, taking a 309-273 victory over the Rock Hill Country Club Dolphins.
    Lancaster was led by Taylor Teague, Makenzy Mills and Samuel Page who had three wins each in the win over the RHCC Dolphins.
    Isabella Thorpe, Bristol Glenn, Titus Trammell, Amelia Wright, Reece Earl, Tamra Tipton and Alaina Houghtaling had two wins apiece in the Piranhas win.

  • Post 31 at home tonight

    Lancaster Post 31 will be home tonight at it hosts Rock Hill Post 34 in a League V baseball clash at Eggleton Field.
    The game tonight is the second meeting of the season between Lancaster and Rock Hill.
    Lancaster, which entered the week with a 2-2 record in League V play, downed Post 34 in the first contest, taking a 12-2 victory in Rock Hill last month.
    In that game, Evan Flynn smashed a two-run home run and Druw Rollings drilled a solo home run to spark the 10-run win in seven frames.

  • Andrew Baker posts two wins at...

    A return to racing at Lancaster Super Speedway featured some of the top action of the 2016 season.
    Veteran driver Andrew Baker highlighted the night, taking two wins.
    u The Montgomery Towing Super Stock main event front row had Matthew Cauthen and Brandy Baker.
    At the green flag, Brandy Baker, Cauthen, Andrew Baker and Justin Norwood roared into turn one battling for the lead.
    Some early race cautions halted action, but once the race got rolling, it was Cauthen, Brandy Baker, Andrew Baker and Norwood in a lead battle.

  • Langley nets first Super Late...

    Josh Langley was all smiles Saturday night after capturing his first career Super Late Model win with the Ultimate Super Late Models Power Satellite 40 at Toccoa Raceway in Georgia.
    Langley’s Super Late Model checkers earned him $4,000 with the 40-lap victory at the Georgia track.
    “It was good to win and I’m thrilled to get that first one,” Langley said. “We have had our share of tough luck, so this win really was exciting.
    “It was great to get the win at a tough track and against a top field.”

  • Dixie Baseball stars open...

    The Lancaster Dixie Baseball A (6U) stars will open play in the District 2 tournament in Union at the Timken Sports Complex June 16.

    The tournament continues to June 18.

    The Lancaster Dixie Baseball A League (6U) all-stars are Lance Whitaker, Malkome Frye, Kaylen Waiters, Kamryn Cloud, Jaziel Campos, Emmanuel Noguera, Grayson Plyler, Dax Funderburk, Colt Funderburk, Caden Timmons, Brendan Belcher and Harley Kennington.
