  • Track’s 60th season begins March...

     

    The 2014 dirt track racing season is right around the corner for Lancaster Super Speedway as the first race of the 60th LSS season is March 22 with the Carolina Clash Super Late Model Series.

    Other divisions racing that night are to be announced at a later date.

    KERSHAW – When Andrew Jackson High School boys basketball coach Danny Wright summons a McIsaac, he has plenty to choose from this season.

    The Volunteers’ squad sports a unique family trey – the McIsaac brothers, senior twins Cameron and Tanner along with sophomore Austin.

    County high school winter sports schedules took a hit with the early dismissal Tuesday, Jan. 28 due to the forecast of winter weather. All after-school extracurricual activities were reset.

    The University of South Carolina Lancaster baseball team opens its sixth season Saturday, Feb. 1 when the Lancers host Gray Military Academy of Columbia.

    CHESTERFIELD – The Buford Jackets made key plays in the clutch to notch a 57-54 win for their first Region IV-AA victory this season on Friday, Jan. 24 at Chesterfield.

    The BHS boys' three-point win gave the visitors a split in the varsity twin bill.

  • Stallions wrestlers down Bruins

     

    South Pointe built an early lead on the way to a 60-10 Region III-AAAA win over Lancaster at the LHS gym on Thursday, Jan. 23.

    The Stallions, 20-5, won seven of the first nine matches on the way to the 50-point victory.

  • Warriors rally for win; AJ girls...

     

    KERSHAW – The No. 5 Indian Land Warriors got rolling in the final two periods to stay unbeaten in Region IV-AA boys basketball play Friday, Jan. 24 at the Andrew Jackson High School gym.

  • Bruins sweep Trojans

     

    The Lancaster Bruins snapped their region skid, while the Lady Bruins continued their splendid region run.

    The LHS boys, playing inspired basketball, halted a seven-game region slide with a 45-43 Region III-AAAA win over Northwestern on Friday, Jan. 24 in the LHS gym.

  • Wynn guest speaker for Blackwell...

     Renaldo Wynn, a former NFL defensive end who now works at Joe Gibbs’ Racing, helping in coach Gibb’s ministry Game Plan for Life, will be the guest speaker for the annual Matt Blackwell Scholarship dinner on Tuesday, Feb. 11 at the Lancaster Golf Club’s Fairway Room at 7 p.m.

  • Cold shooting hampers Jackets in...

     

    BUFORD – Cold shooting plagued Buford teams in a pair of Region IV-AA basketball losses to Cheraw at the BHS gym on Tuesday, Jan. 21.

    The CHS Lady Braves rallied late to gain a 41-39 win over the Lady Jackets and the Braves took a 51-38 win to complete the league sweep.
