    KERSHAW – Andrew Jackson, in comeback fashion, earned a measure of postseason basketball revenge Saturday, Feb. 22.

    The host Lady Volunteers, with a stirring fourth-quarter rally, avenged a 2013 Class AA Upper State first-round playoff loss with a 50-45 win over Columbia High School at the AJ gym.

    A year ago, the CHS Lady Capitols halted the AJ girls’ postseason hopes with a 45-43 road win.

    LAURENS – Lancaster High School senior wrestler Quinshun “Bubba” Evans continued his dominance on the wrestling mat, improving his record to 44-0 on his way to the Class AAAA 182-pound Upper State championship on Saturday, Feb. 22 at Laurens High School.

    Evans defeated top-seed Ryan Hughes, 3-1 of meet host Laurens High School in overtime of the championship finals on Saturday.

  • IL nets 3 upstate crowns

    The Indian Land Warriors posted an impressive mat showing in the Class A-AA Upper State tournament at Liberty High School over the weekend, Feb. 21-22.

    The Warriors, who took eight wrestlers to the Upstate tourney, captured three weight classes in the two-day event.

    IL advanced six wrestlers, with the trio of Dalen Byerley, Devin Curtsinger and Eric Komorous leading the way with each capturing an individual Class A-AA Upstate crown.

    INDIAN LAND – Third-ranked Indian Land took control in the second quarter and cruised to a solid 76-44 win over Eau Claire of Columbia in the opening round of the Class AA Upper State boys basketball playoffs on Thursday, Feb. 20.

    INDIAN LAND – Third-ranked Indian Land took control in the second quarter and cruised to a solid 76-44 win over Eau Claire of Columbia in the opening round of the Class AA Upper State boys basketball playoffs on Thursday, Feb. 20.

    The Warriors, 18-4, held a 20-14 lead on the Shamrocks after the opening period, but they got rolling in the pivotal second quarter on the way to the 32-point win at the IL gym.

    Sophomore guard Darnell Rogers, IL’s top scorer, provided the spark, hitting 14 of his 24 points in the second period.

    The sixth annual Gameday at Doomsday high school baseball jamboree is Saturday, Feb. 22 at the Lancaster High School baseball field.

    The field includes varsity and junior varsity teams from the four county high schools, Andrew Jackson, Buford, Indian Land and host Lancaster.
