    KERSHAW – The Andrew Jackson Lady Vols advanced to the third round of the Class AA girls Upper basketball playoffs, defeating Gray Collegiate Academy, 63-41 at AJ on Friday.

    The Lady Vols came out strong and built a 10-point lead early in the first quarter. AJ led 17-8 after one period.

    GREENVILLE – Sha’Ron Brunson, a former Lancaster High School girls basketball star, continues to reap the hardwood honors for the Bob Jones University women’s basketball team.

    Jones was named the PlanFIRST Player of the Game for the Bob Jones University Bruins women’s basketball team Feb. 13.

    The opener will feature the annual LSS car show, so fans can see their favorite drivers’ cars up close and meet their favorite drivers.

    Michael Blaine, a world known chainsaw wood carver, will leave his mark on the Lancaster High School softball field this season.

    Blaine will carve a 7-foot-tall Bruin Bear at the field from Feb. 28 to March 1.

    The final product will be unveiled March 8.

    The wooded Bruin Bear will be a permanent fixture at the LHS field for seasons to come.

    Emerald High School ended Indian Land High’s Class AAA girls postseason basketball hopes with a 53-31 win over the Lady Warriors on Thursday night in Greenwood.

    Emerald started strong, taking an 18-9 lead after one period and stayed on top to lead 29-16 at the half.

    Emerald held a 38-17 edge after three quarters on the way to the 22-point win.

    The Lady Vikings, 19-1, advance to face Seneca High School in the Class AAA Upper State semifinals on Monday.

  • County trio nets all-state honors

    A trio of Lancaster County high school basketball standouts has been selected for all-state honors.

    The talented threesome includes a pair of Andrew Jackson High School hoops aces – Lady Volunteers’ center Alexxus Sowell and Vols’ junior star Dontarius James.

    Indian Land High School’s Nia Pressley, a senior standout, has been selected for the Class AAA girls all-state basketball team.

  • Greenville halts Lady Bruins’...

    Lancaster High was bidding to be the spoiler in the Class AAAA Upper State girls basketball playoffs, but Greenville was able to hold on for a 63-50 win over the Lady Bruins on Tuesday night at GHS’s Slick Moore gym.
    Lancaster, recovering from a slow start, rallied to close the gap to four, 40-36, with a period to play.
    Greenville opened with a 16-8 edge and pushed the lead to 28-16 at the half.

  • AJ rolls in playoff openers

    KERSHAW – The Andrew Jackson Volunteers dominated each of their first Class AA Upper State playoff games in the AJ gym on Tuesday night.
    The Volunteers faced off against the Abbeville Panthers teams during the first round of playoffs.
    The fourth-ranked Lady Vols, 16-7, beat the Abbeville girls 56-29.
    The Volunteers won their game with the Panthers, posting a 61-36 victory.
    The Lady Vols dominated the first half of the game, outscoring the Panthers by 21, 27-6 at the break.
