    The Indian Land High School wrestling team celebrated its Class AAA No. 6 state ranking, posting a home win over Lancaster County Class AA foe Buford High School on Wednesday night.

    The Warriors, 18-5, downed the rival Jackets 58-18 at the Indian Land High gym.

    University of South Carolina Lancaster soccer coach Alex Tarque, in a move to boost the Lancers’ program through international play, has signed Maximilliano Ruiz of Argentina.

    “This is part of a plan to bring a variety of foreign players into the soccer programs for both our men’s and women’s teams at USCL,” said Tarque, who coaches the USCL men’s and women’s teams.

  • Bruins’ Brunson earns national...

    The National Christian College Athletic Association (NCCAA) has selected Bob Jones University Bruins women’s basketball senior guard Sha’Ron Brunson as national student-athlete of the week.

    She was selected for her play in two games for the Bruins last week.

    Brunson is a former Lancaster High School girls basketball standout who played under coach Ronnie Robinson at LHS, where she graduated in 2013.

    The Lancaster High School volleyball team recently honored top players for the Lady Bruins’ volleyball season.

    Junior captain Ashley Abbott, the LHS libero, earned a pair of awards for her play during the 2016 season.

    Abbott was named the Lady Bruins Defensive Player of the Year and she was also selected to the all-region volleyball team.

    The games were originally set to be played Friday, but moved ahead with the forecast of a winter storm.

    The ILHS boys made a hard charge, but fell to the visiting Falcons, 73-67.

  • Weather freezes prep play

    The forecast of a winter storm this weekend caused Lancaster County high schools to alter their winter sports schedule.

    Prep basketball games involving Lancaster and Indian Land high schools were moved ahead a day.

    Lancaster and Indian Land were slated to play home games Friday night, but the games were reset and played Thursday night.

    Buford was scheduled to play varsity basketball games Friday and Saturday, but the games were canceled.
