  • Bruins capture region title

    The Lancaster High golf team was a little off its game, but had what it needed to capture the Region III-AAAA golf title for the second straight season at the Lancaster Golf Club on Wednesday afternoon.

    The match was originally set for Monday, but reset due to heavy rain in the area earlier in the week.

  • Lady Vols win region track crown

    The Andrew Jackson High School girls compiled 111 points, highlighted by three firsts, to win the Region IV-AA girls track title at Buford High School on Tuesday.

    The Lady Vols were followed by host BHS with 95 points.

    Paris Clyburn, who won the discus crown for the third straight season, aided the AJ cause along with Niyana Jones, who won the long jump and placed second in the high jump.

  • Blue Ridge tops Bruins

    Fourth-ranked Blue Ridge foiled Lancaster in the opening round of the Class AAAA Upper State baseball playoffs, taking a 5-2 win over the Bruins on Tuesday night.

    Elijah Henderson led the Tigers with three hits. Zach Waddell had two hits and two RBIs.

    Waddell went 5.2 innings and posted six strikeouts for the win. Jackson Morris went 1.1 innings to cap the BRHS win.

  • Fore the Kids tourney has record...

    The winning team for the seventh annual Fore The Kids golf tournament held at Edgewater Golf Club included George Ardery, Ted Kennedy and Arrien Dadney.

    The second-place team was Fred, Nick, Cadi Mangano and George Beaver.

    The third-place team was Jerry Byrum, Rob Noland, Andy Sharrai and Don Martin.

  • SECA Crate Late Models bonus...

    The SECA Crate Late Models will headline action with the SECA Crate Late Model bonus race paying $2,000 to win Saturday night at Lancaster Super Speedway.

    To date, the SECA Crate Late Models have raced at Lancaster Super Speedway twice, with Gary Puckett taking the win in a highly competitive race with Hank Taylor and Travis Steele.

    Timbo Mangum won the most recent SECA Crate Late Models race, Mangum battled  longtime rival, “The Gambler,” Brandy Baker for the win.

  • Lancers capture Region X title

    A Sunday split proved to be diamond delight for the University of South Carolina Lancers’ baseball team at the Lancaster High School baseball field on Sunday.

    The Lancers, with a split with Region X rival Spartanburg Methodist, earned the school’s first-ever regular-season region baseball championship.

    USCL, with the crown, will be the Region X tournament top seed for the tournament which opens May 6 in Burlington, N.C.

  • Catoe notches first career win...

    Veteran driver Rusty Catoe captured his first career win to highlight action a Lancaster Super Speedway on Saturday night.

    In the Extreme 4 main event, the front row had David Laney and Chris Baker.

    The fans were already on their feet because of the rivalry between these two great drivers.

    When the green flag dropped, Laney, Baker, Brad McManus and Mike Baucom roared  into turn one battling for the lead.

  • Bruins sweep KLS county meet

    Host Lancaster High School captured both titles in the 11th annual Kleine Levin Syndrome Running for Ryan Lancaster County track meet at the LHS track Saturday afternoon.

    The Bruins, with nine firsts in 16 events, compiled 120 points, while the Lady Bruins, who also won nine events in the meet, tallied 98.5 points.

  • Vols edge Jackets for playoff bid

    The Andrew Jackson Volunteers edged county rival Buford, 2-1 to capture fourth-place and a Class AA Upper State baseball playoff bid on Friday night at the Vols’ field.

    The Vols’ win came on AJ baseball senior night when Heath Gandy and John Cauthen were honored.

    Gandy was the man of the hour in the game, hurling the complete-game win and going 2-3 with the game-winning RBI to score teammate Will Hudson who had doubled in the AJ fifth.

  • Buford blanks AJ for region...

    The Buford Lady Jackets used a clutch pitching effort to notch a 2-0 win over county rival Andrew Jackson High School to win the Region IV-AA softball title for the second straight season.

    BHS senior right-hander Sydney Sullivan, who has signed to play at Limestone College, struck out 18 AJ batters and allowed a walk and a hit to key the 17-4 Lady Jackets to the region title win at the Lady Vols’ field on Friday night.

    AJ had only three batters reach in the game.
