  • Vols capture region mat title

    KERSHAW – The Andrew Jackson wrestling team captured its first Region IV-AA mat title, going 3-1 on Saturday for a 7-1 region record for the season and the league title.
    AJ, a school-record 25-9 this season in its sixth year of prep wrestling, defeated Buford 38-37, Chesterfield 63-18 and Cheraw 48-33, with the Vols’ lone loss on the day to rival North Central, 36-33.
    The Vols’ overall 7-1 mark gave AJ the region crown.

  • Warriors impress, claim region tournament crown

    CAMDEN – The Indian Land Warriors were on a mat mission Saturday and they responded with an impressive run to capture the Region IV-AAA wrestling tournament at Camden High School.
    The Warriors, unbeaten Saturday with four straight wins, including a pair of shutouts, rolled over Chester 47-14, Columbia, 77-0, Camden, 58-15 and Fairfield Central 84-0.

  • Buford wrestlers take 2 mat wins

    The Buford High School wrestling team improved to 18-10 with a sweep of North Central and Class AAA Fairfield Central at NCHS on Tuesday night.

    The Jackets downed the host Knights, 45-27 and took a 64-12 win over Fairfield Central of Winnsboro.

    In the win over the Knights, the Jackets posted five pins.

    BHS winners by falls included Devin Jenkins (113), Blake Bailey (145), Matthew Wallace (152), Webber Moore (160) and Trey Bobbitt (195).

  • Warriors fall twice to Yellow Jackets

    INDIAN LAND – Fort Mill, in a rematch with Indian Land High School, repeated for a non-region sweep of the Warriors on Thursday night in the Warriors’ gym.

    The game was originally set for Dec. 8 at ILHS, but postponed due to icy road conditions cancelling after-school activities that day – a Friday.

    In the first meeting on Dec. 15 at Fort Mill, the host Yellow Jackets buzzed to a pair of wins over the visiting Warriors – 58-52 in the boys game and 68-11 in the girls contest.

  • Thompson ready for Down Under Games

    Lancaster High School junior track runner Kendrick Thompson does his share of distance running and his effort is taking him a ways in the near future.

    This summer, the Bruins track standout will compete in the Down Under Sports track and field events for the 18th annual International Games July 8-18 in Gold Coast, Australia.

    The 2018 Down Under Sports program features competition in football, cross country, golf, track and field, basketball and volleyball.

  • Warriors blitz Griffins for split

    INDIAN LAND – The Indian Land Warriors started strong on the way to a 67-53 win over Fairfield Central of Winnsboro on Tuesday night.

    The Warriors’ 14-point win gave ILHS a split in the Region IV-AAA varsity twin bill.

    The winless Lady Warriors, who dipped to 0-14, dropped a 52-16 loss in the girls game.

    The boys game saw Indian Land bolt to a 13-2 lead and the Warriors remained in control for the victory over the Griffins.

  • BHS Jackets jolt Braves, 81-76

    BUFORD – The Buford Yellow Jackets highlighted a Region IV-AA split, taking an 81-76 win over Cheraw on Tuesday night at BHS.

    Buford, bolstered by a balanced attack, rallied from a 34-29 halftime deficit to take the five-point win over the Braves.

    The Jackets’ comeback win snapped a two-game CHS win streak.

    In the girls game, Cheraw posted a 46-37 win, giving the Braves a split.

  • Lady Vols rout Eagles in region split

    KERSHAW – The Andrew Jackson Lady Volunteers continued their winning streak, dominating the Central Lady Eagles 67-22 in their Tuesday night home game.

    The Vols, in the boys game, fought hard, but came up three points short in their game against the Eagles, 76-73.

  • Lady Vols capture win over NC girls

    The Lady Vols continued their winning streak as they defeated the North Central Lady Knights 53-48 in overtime on Friday night.

    The Andrew Jackson Volunteers lost a close game to the rival Knights in a 59-53 loss.

    The Andrew Jackson Lady Vols kept up the pressure to win in overtime against the North Central Lady Knights 53-48.

    The Lady Vols came out strong with a 4-point lead 13-9. They continued to push forward to the halftime score 22-11.

  • Stallions dash in sweep of Jackets

    BISHOPVILLE – Lee Central took two from visiting Buford in Region IV-AA basketball on Friday night.

    The fourth-ranked Stallions took an early lead and cruised to a 78-39 win over the Jackets to complete the sweep.

    The LC boys opened an 11-3 lead after a period of play and then used a 22-8 second period surge to take a 33-11 advantage on the Jackets.

    The Stallions led 61-28 after three quarters on the way to the 39-point win.
