  • Vols top Bruins on penalty kicks

    Andrew Jackson stayed unbeaten on the prep soccer season with a 3-2 (4-2 in penalty kicks) shootout win over Lancaster at Memorial Stadium on Wednesday night.

    LHS was up 1-0 at halftime after Jonathan Baker made a great run in the AJ box and was taken down for a penalty.

    Cristian Diaz stepped up to tally the penalty kick for a 1-0 Bruins lead at the half.

    The second half started off wide open with both teams creating plenty of chances.

  • Warriors hold off Jackets for 11-8 win

    Indian Land forged an early 9-0 lead and held on for an 11-8 win over Buford at the Warriors baseball field on Tuesday night.

    Wes Barfield took the win, going four innings. He allowed three runs on six hits and struck out one.

    Nolan Bolt recorded the last four outs to notch the ILHS save.

    Johnathan Belk took the loss, yielding four hits and seven runs over one and a third innings. He fanned two.

  • Lady Bruins top York

    The Lancaster High School Lady Bruins blanked Region III-AAAA softball foe York at the LHS field on Tuesday night.

    Lady Bruins senior hurler Summer Clinton was the winner, striking out eight. She allowed two hits and a walk.

    Ashley Abbott had two hits to lead LHS. Gracie Revels belted a home run.

    Sydney Cauthen, Taylor Ames, Madison Morris, Ana Watts and Clinton each had a hit for Lancaster.

    Morris had a RBI.

    Alexus Lowery drew two walks and Kadaja Cunningham walked.

  • LHS golfers 7th in Bengal tournament

    The Lancaster High School golf team placed seventh in the annual Bengal Invitational at Blythewood on Tuesday.

    Hilton Head Christian topped the field with a 613, followed by Gaffney 617, Hartsville 619, Fox Creek 625 and Bishop England 625.

    Teams 6-10 were Lexington 628, Lancaster 631, Boiling Springs 635, Blythewood 637 and A.C. Flora, and Fort Mill tied for 10th with a 638 each.

    Brady Hinkle led LHS with a 150 (77-73), Trey Crenshaw followed 154 (79-75). Mason Tucker tallied a 159 and Nick Mangano had a 168.

  • Lady Bruins blank Blazers

    The Lancaster High School Lady Bruins softball team improved to 7-0, 2-0 in Region III-AAAA play, with a 13-0 win over Ridge View on Friday night in their home opener.

    Jordan Pomnitz, Madison Morris and Gracie Revels each had two hits and tallied two runs to lead Lancaster.

    Sydney Cauthen had two hits and scored a run.

    Ashley Abbott, Ana Watts, Alexus Lowery, Kadaja Cunningham, Brittney Robison and Summer Clinton each had a hit and tallied a run.

    Morris was the winning pitcher, posting seven strikeouts and allowing two hits.

  • Bruins sweep track meet

    The Lancaster Bruins track teams captured a five-way meet at the Buford High School track on March 5, with LHS topping the field in the boys and girls meets.

    The Lady Bruins tallied 125 points to win the girls meet, followed by Buford 108, Central 46, Great Falls 24 and McBee 17.

    In the boys meet LHS racked up 132 points, followed by Central 94, McBee 62, Buford 29 and Great Falls 10.

  • Bruins edge Ridge View, 12-11

    Lancaster opened its home schedule, winning a high-scoring game with a 12-11 win over Ridge View on Friday night at Doomsday Corner.

    The Bruins’ hustling Gavin Hanna scored on a passed ball to lift Lancaster to the one-run win.

    LHS bolted to an 8-0 lead in the second inning before the Blazers rallied to tie the game at 11-all and the Bruins rallied for the win.

    Logan Phillips, who worked an inning in relief, was the winner. He struck out three and walked none.

    Phillips aided the winning cause with two hits, a RBI and scored a run.

  • Jackets booters down Demons, 2-0

    The Buford men’s varsity soccer team wrapped up a successful week, taking a 2-0 win over Class AAAA foe Lugoff-Elgin at Jackets Stadium on Friday.

    The match marked the final time the teams played in the young season.

    The Jackets previously defeated the Demons 5-2 in the Capital City Cup in February, but dropped a 3-1 loss at Lugoff-Elgin in the regular season opener.

  • LHS triumphs in tennis

    The Lancaster High School boys tennis team opened defense of its region championship, taking a 5-0 win over Ridge View on Thursday.
    Lancaster swept the singles and no doubles were played since RVHS had only six players.

  • Yellow Jackets blank Cyclones

    The Buford High School boys varsity opened its soccer season, taking a 3-0 win over Class AAA foe Chester on Monday.
    Senior Nate Purser opened the scoring with a goal off a Jesse Black assist.
    The Jackets controlled the first half tempo, but couldn’t finish opportunities to leave the match at 1-0.
    Early in the second half, Purser scored again on an assist from senior left back Zachary Justice.
    In the 65th minute, BHS senior left wing, Juan Gaspar-Luna scored on a ball crossed into the goal area from senior Ben Rhoton.
