  • Eagles ground Jackets with running game

    Buford’s four-game winning streak and undefeated region mark came to a halt Friday, Oct. 16 at Jackets Stadium,
    The visiting Central Eagles, 4-4, 3-1, shut out Buford’s offense in the second half and ran away with a 35-14 Region IV-AA victory.
    It was homecoming night for Buford, but the “crowning” jewel belonged to the CHS wishbone.
    Behind the wishbone set, the Eagles amassed 305 yards of offense on the ground, and the Central defense frustrated Buford’s offensive attack.

  • Warriors rebound, rally for win

    BOONETOWN –  Indian Land’s month-long road trip ended Friday night at North Central on a good note.
    As they did the first three weeks, the Warriors started slowly, falling behind by 14 twice.  Unlike the last three, the Warriors rallied for an exciting 28-21 win in overtime.
    On the second series for the Knights, they substituted their running quarterback, Delmarcus Wood. The decision proved to be a good one as Wood took the shotgun snap and on the second play of the drive and raced straight up the middle 76 yards to make it 6-0.

  • Braves spear Volunteers for first win

    KERSHAW – Cheraw combined a balanced offense with a stingy defense to stymie Andrew Jackson, 33-12 at Volunteer Stadium on Friday night.
    With the 21-point win, the Braves snapped the Vols’ two-game winning streak.
    Cheraw quarterback Tristen Campbell racked up 273 yards total offense, 117 yards rushing and 166 yards passing, including three TDs passing.
    Andrew Jackson continually shot itself in the foot with 11 penalties for 75 yards and three turnovers.

  • Stallions corral Bruins

    ROCK HILL – The skein is still a pain.
    In eight football clashes with Lancaster High School, South Pointe has posted wins in each game, including a 16-7 comeback victory at the SPHS Corral on Friday, Oct. 16.
    Much like the previous meeting last season at Lancaster Memorial in a 14-7 Bruins’ loss, LHS had its chances, but couldn’t convert.
    Ditto 2015.
    The Stallions, the defending Class AAA state champions, snapped a 7-all halftime draw, taking the ball in on their opening drive of the second half to gain the lead.

  • Swimmers set for AAA state meet

    The Region III-AAA champion Lancaster Bruins will compete in the Class AAA state meet at the University of South Carolina Natatorium on Saturday, Oct. 17.
    Lancaster, led by co-head coaches Midenna Anderson and David Taylor, was slated to compete in the annual meet in Columbia on Saturday, Oct. 10, but the meet was moved to Oct. 17 due to the flooding in the Columbia area.
    Lancaster High has a host of swimmers slated to compete in the field.

  • Brigman brings the hits

    INDIAN LAND –  If it seems Indian Land High School senior offensive guard Dakota Brigman embraces his role as a Warriors’ offensive lineman, he does.
    Brigman does enjoy his role in the trenches, but he’s known that for a while.
    “Growing up, there are those glamour positions in football, like quarterback, or running back or wide receiver,” he said.
    Don’t even go there with Brigman, a 6-1, 245-pound IL line veteran.
    Since his early days of organized football, he’s always been on the line.

  • Tri-County coaches salute 4 county players for stellar play in week seven

    RICHBURG – A quartet of Lancaster County football players was honored at the week seven meeting of the Tri-County Football Coaches Association meeting held Tuesday, Oct. 13 at the Front Porch Restaurant in Richburg.
    The county players selected for honors included Andrew Jackson High’s Heath Gandy and Dalton McKittrick along with Lancaster High School’s C.D. Catoe and Caleb Funderburk.

  • LHS volleyball closing in on region championship

    The Lancaster Lady Bruins, 20-1, 8-0, are looking to wrap up their second straight Region III-AAA volleyball championship.
    LHS, in action last week, posted two home wins, topping South Pointe and Clinton.
    LHS visited Chester on Tuesday, Oct. 13 and hosts Broome to wrap up regular-season play on Thursday, Oct. 15.
    Lancaster, in the win over South Pointe High School, was led by Hayden Thorne’s seven kills.
    Keyotta Garris and Amirah Steward each had five kills.

  • Waller to lead Jackets’ basketball

    Buford High School has tapped into the college ranks for its new boys basketball coach.
    Raheem Waller, an Atlanta native who has coached 10 years in various levels of college basketball, was introduced as the Jackets’ new basketball coach Thursday, Oct. 8 in the BHS auditorium.

  • Pivotal games Friday night

    Week eight of the 2015 Lancaster County football season features a host of pivotal clashes Friday, Oct. 16.
    Lancaster and Buford will be in quest of wins to boost their region title and playoff chances.
    Andrew Jackson and Indian Land will be seeking victories to aid their postseason hopes.
    Lancaster ventures to Rock Hill to battle defending Region III-AAA champion South Pointe, while Buford, in its annual homecoming game, will face Central as the Jackets seek to stay unbeaten in Region IV-AA play.
