  • Bruins hold off Trojans in OT win

    This time overtime was a better time for the Lancaster Bruins.

    LHS, on the road at Region III-AAAA foe Northwestern, prevailed in a 63-61 overtime win over the upset-minded Trojans in Rock Hill on Friday night.

    Buford produced a solid effort for four periods in posting its first Region IV-AA win of the season, a 77-67 win over Central of Pageland.

  • Cal JUCO inks Bruins’ ace DB Elder

    Lancaster High School standout defensive back Shaq Elder is headed west to take his game to the next level.

    Elder, a three-year starter in the Bruins’ secondary, signed with Feather River College, a Quincy, Calif., junior college, where he will play for the next two seasons.

    Lancaster High School standout two-way football performer KeAnthony Foster said his hard work has paid off for him.

    Foster solidified his education and athletic future, signing with Orangeburg Calhoun Prep Academy on Wednesday in the LHS media center.

    For the Lancaster Bruins, Friday night was home sweep home.

    The host Bruins, in Region III-AAAA hoops action, took two from visiting Spartanburg High School.

    The Lady Bruins, in a thriller, prevailed 52-50 in overtime and the LHS boys notched a 74-61 win over the Vikings.

    The fourth-ranked LHS boys completed the Bruins’ broom job with a 13-point win over SHS.

    Lancaster, 19-2, 5-1, led 30-25 at the half and extended its lead into the third period.

  • Vols’ rally nets sweep of BHS Jackets

    BUFORD – Andrew Jackson’s Avalon Truesdale was tough in the clutch for the Volunteers as visiting AJ swept a Region IV-AA basketball twin bill from host Buford on Friday night.

    Truesdale, 7 of 8 at the stripe in the final period, connected on five of six foul shots in the final 50.6 seconds to lift  AJ to a 45-41 win over the scrappy Jackets.

    The Vols’ four-point comeback win gave AJ a sweep, with the Lady Vols posting a 59-44 victory in the varsity opener.

  • Braves spear Warriors twice in region play

    INDIAN LAND – Indian Land had a tough night on the hardwood Friday, dropping a pair of Region IV-AA home losses to Cheraw High School.

    The Braves capped the league sweep with a 75-66 win after the Lady Warriors fell to the Lady Braves, 46-30.

    In the nightcap, Cheraw, 13-3, 4-2, took control in the second half, rallying from a 29-all draw at the break.

    The Braves, with a 23-16 run, held a 52-45 lead before posting the nine-point win.
