Junior Warriors go unbeaten in taking tournament crown

Indian Land completed an unbeaten run to capture the title in the Bruin Invitational junior varsity soccer tournament at Lancaster Memorial Stadium on Saturday.

The Junior Warriors, who went 3-0 in the tournament and outscored their foes 12-2, downed Buford, 5-1 to take the title.

Jackets top Vols, 11-8

Buford kept pace in the Region IV-AA baseball race with an 11-8 road win over county rival Andrew Jackson on Friday.

Buford, 7-2, 5-1 in region play, held a 7-5 edge after five innings, and used a four-run sixth inning to build an 11-5 lead.

The 2011 Andrew Jackson Lady Volunteers’ soccer season has solid hope for the season.

The AJ girls, with a 4-5-1 alignment, are led by captains Rebecca Johnson, Leah Kennington, Ashleigh Aiello and Katherine Killingsworth who were selected by the coaches and players.

BHS Jackets jolt Braves

The Buford Yellow Jackets, 4-2, improved to 3-1 in Region IV-AA play with a 7-2 road win over Cheraw on Friday night.

BHS right-hander Colt Ellis went the distance, allowing two runs, five hits and three walks. He struck out five.

Jacob Jamison paced the BHS offense with two hits, three runs batted in, two runs scored and a stolen base.

Ellis, Kholby Pate and Ricky Lewis each had a hit and drove in a run. Kendall Knight had a hit and scored two runs. Brett Estridge added a hit.

For the University of South Carolina at Lancaster Lancers’ first-year softball program, it’s been a slow process with only three wins in 22 games.
