  • Bruins edge Golden Hurricanes in playoffs

         Lancaster will be seeking some hardwood revenge Tuesday night when they travel to Dorman High of Spartanburg in the Class AAAA boys Upper State semifinals.

    The 24-3 Bruins survived an upset bid from gutsy Wren to take a 53-52 win over the Golden Hurricanes on Saturday.

    The Bruins’ one-point win sends LHS to Dorman to face the Cavaliers in the Class AAAA Upstate semifinals on Tuesday night.

    Dorman defeated Richland Northeast 43-39 on Saturday night.

  • Shamrocks halt Warriors' hopes with 73-64 victory

    Indian Land High boys basketball coach Nate Smith said he knew the 2011-12 season would be a challenge with the loss of some key players off the 2010-11 hoops team which finished as the Class AA Upper State runner-up to eventual champion Keenan at the Bi-Lo Center in Columbia.

  • Clutch free throws lift Lady Vols

    The game came down to converting clutch free throws and the Andrew Jackson High girls came through.

    The Lady Vols’ Bre Wright hit two critical free throws with 9.9 seconds to play to lift AJ to a 60-58 win over Eau Claire in the opening round of the Class AA girls Upper State basketball playoffs.

  • County teams are set for state wrestling tourneys

    County wrestling teams will now turn their mat focus to the individual state tournament, which begins this weekend with the Class AAAA and Class AA Upper State round.

    The Class AA Upstate tournament will be held Friday and Saturday at Crescent High School in Powdersville.

  • Taneyhill leaves Chesterfield to guide Union County High

    Former South Carolina star quarterback Steve Taneyhill, who built Chesterfield High School into a Class A state football power, is leaving the Rams’ program to become the head football coach at Union County High School.

    Taneyhill was announced as the Yellow Jackets’ head coach Monday night.

    Buford High School head football coach Mike Wells has been selected as a coach for the 2012 Shrine Bowl football game.

  • AJ girls advance

    Andrew Jackson held on to advance in the Class AA girls Upper State basketball playoffs on Tuesday night in the Lady Volunteers' gym.

    The AJ girls were the only team of three county schools in the girls basketball playoffs to survive in round one.

    The Lady Vols' Bre Wright, who scored 21 points, hit two clutch free throws with 9.9 seconds to lift AJ to a 60-58 win over Eau Claire of Columbia.

    EC's Logan Jones, who led the Lady Shamrocks with 23, had a chance to tie the game and force overtime, but missed at the free-throw line.

  • Warriors spoil BHS senior night with hardwood sweep

     

       

    BUFORD – Indian Land played the spoiler on Buford’s senior night, taking two Region IV-AA basketball wins from the host Jackets on Thursday night at BHS.
