    A trio of county prep softball teams prevailed in dramatic elimination game wins Monday afternoon.

    Lancaster rallied from a 2-0 deficit to down Greenwood in the Class AAAA Upper State playoffs.

  • Chesnee ends Buford hopes with 8-2 victory

    Chesnee halted the Buford baseball team’s postseason run with an 8-2 win over the Jackets in a Class AA Upper State playoffs elimination game at Buford Park on Monday afternoon.

    The Eagles used a key six-run fourth inning to take control on the way to the six-run win.

  • Jimmy Winn was a true gem

    Most days when I enter The News’ office, Dianne Sweatt, of our business office, greets me with a smile and big hello.

    Wednesday was different, and with good reason.

    Dianne told me Jimmy Winn, a longtime friend, had died earlier that morning. The tragic news was a real stunner. Jimmy, a vibrant person who embraced life, was gone.

  • Lady Bruins rally, clip Cats to net playoff bid

    The Lady Bruins soccer team capped its region schedule in spectacular manner with a 2-1 comeback victory over Rock Hill at the Rock Hill Stadium on Friday night.

    LHS earned a Class AAAA Upper State bid with the win.

    The Bruins were very aggressive offensively and took the match to the Rock Hill defense throughout the first half, but were unable to score. Frances Whitesides and Sedona Smith worked some great combinations throughout the half only to be denied by the RH defense.

    The Lancaster Lady Bruins capped regular-season play with a 13-12 road win over county foe Andrew Jackson on Tuesday night.

    Erin Walker worked 6.5 innings and allowed 17 hits and hit a batter. She fanned five. Katy Ghent went .5 innings and walked two.

    The surging Lancaster Bruins improved to 11-10 overall with a 7-3 road win over county foe Andrew Jackson on Monday.

    Trai Sanders, 4-3, hurled the win, going five frames. He allowed four walks, three hits and struck out two.
