    RICHBURG – Lancaster held on for a tough win to cap play in the Lions Tipoff Classic at Lewisville High School on Saturday, Nov. 24.

  • AJ Vols sweep Demons

    KERSHAW – The Andrew Jackson Volunteers launched their regular-season schedule with a home sweep of Class AAAA Lugoff-Elgin on Monday night.

    The Lady Vols rolled to a 64-27 win over the Lady Demons and the 3-0 AJ boys capped the broom job with a 73-65 win over L-E.

    BUFORD – Andrew Jackson kept its court focus and earned an early-season goal Tuesday night, Nov. 20, at the Buford High School gym.
    The Volunteers, who set winning the fifth annual Buford Preseason Invitational as an early-season goal, swept to the crown with a 73-66 win over Class A foe McBee.
    AJ opened play Monday night, taking a 63-52 win over North Central.
    North Central, rebounding from the opening round loss to AJ, captured consolation honors with a 54-50 win over tournament host Buford.

  • Jackets hopeful for hoops season

    BUFORD – Considering all the challenges facing the 2011-12 Buford High School varsity basketball team, BHS head coach Neil Couch enters his third season optimistic and upbeat.
    The 3-21 record paved the way for many players to gain valuable experience and court time.
    “I’m excited about this year’s team,” Couch said. “We have probably the deepest team since I have been here. That will allow us to play more of the style we want to play.”

  • Buford cheerleaders sixth in AA state competition

    The Buford High School cheerleaders produced a school-record effort to earn a sixth-place finish in the Class AA state cheer competition at the Bi-Lo Center in Greenville on Saturday, Nov. 17.

    The Jackets scored 235 points, a mere 27 points behind Class AA state cheer champion Liberty, 262 points.

  • Vols down Knights, earn title game bid

    BUFORD – Andrew Jackson used a strong second-half rally to notch a 63-52 win over North Central to earn a bid to the Buford Preseason Invitational title game Monday, Nov. 19.

    The Vols, down 37-27 at the half, outscored the Knights 36-15 in the final two periods to take the 11-point comeback win.

  • Thornwell signs with USC

    Sindarius Thornwell returned to his hoop roots to decide his future.

    Thornwell, the former Lancaster High School basketball star who is playing his senior season at Oak Hill Academy in Mouth of Wilson, Va., was back at LHS on Monday to sign with the University of South Carolina Gamecocks.

  • Buford, AJ cheer teams set for state competition

     

       

    Andrew Jackson and Buford high schools will compete in the Class AA state cheer competition in Greenville on Saturday.

  • Juniors roll in LHS powder puff contest

    The juniors, with a shutout win, captured bragging rights for 2012 after posting a 21-0 win over the seniors in the annual Lancaster High School powder puff football game at Memorial Stadium.

    The flag football game was held during the LHS homecoming week of Oct. 8-12.

    There’s plenty to cheer about at Andrew Jackson and Buford high schools this week.
