  • Lady Warriors roll by Cycs to earn split with Chester

    The Indian Land High girls continued their  strong Region IV-AAA play, taking a 56-24 road win over Chester on Tuesday night.
    The Lady Warriors, 5-7, 2-1, started strong to cruise to the 32-point victory over the Lady Cyclones.
    IL bolted to a 16-5 lead and held a 35-8 edge at the break after outscoring CHS, 19-3 in the second period.
    “We got off to a good start and built on that lead,” Indian Land High girls coach Natasha Rogers said.
    Nia Pressley paced the Lady Warriors with 20, 12 in the first half.

  • Vols take two from Jackets

    KERSHAW – The Andrew Jackson Volunteers battled rival Buford High School in a Region IV-AA twin bill on Tuesday night when the Volunteers posted the sweep,  but in different fashion.
    The AJ girls won in overtime, taking a tough 39-30 win.
    The No. 7 AJ boys dominated the Buford  squad with an 83-60 victory.
    The Lady Vols started off evenly matched with the Lady Jackets, leading by two during the first quarter, 8-6. The play between the two teams was balanced by the half when AJ held a narrow 15-14 edge.

  • IL wrestlers second in Kings tourney

    The Indian Land High School varsity wrestling team placed in a tie for second at the King of Kings wrestling tournament at Waddell Language Academy in Charlotte on Saturday.
    The Warriors and Hopewell of Charlotte tied for second with 133.5 points each.
    Northwest Cabarrus, with 143 points, topped the 16-team field.
    The Warriors were led by Austin Ross and Chad Milasauskas, who each placed first in their weight class.
    Indian Land had three wrestlers who finished second, including Juan Alejandro, Kyle Daley and Wesley Johnson.

  • Lady Warriors rebound, deck Lady Bulldogs

    Indian Land, in a region road trip to Camden, had mixed results in its varsity twin bill.
    Indian Land’s girls evened their region mark at 1-1 with a solid 62-44 win over Camden, while the IL boys dropped a 67-37 loss.
    The Lady Warriors, 4-7, took charge in the second period to build an 32-22 edge at halftime and stayed on top for the 18-point win.
    “We played a complete game of basketball tonight,” Natasha Rogers said. “The second quarter was the difference for us.”

    BISHOPVILLE –  The Andrew Jackson Volunteers split wins with the Lee Central Stallions on Friday night.
    The eighth-ranked Lady Vols won 28-22, but the second-rated AJ boys lost 69-54 in the Region IV-AA split at Lee Central High School in Bishopville.
    The Lady Vols, 10-5, 5-0, got off to a slow start and posted six points in the first quarter to the Lee Central girls’ three.
    The score remained low at the half with Lady Vols holding a 15-10 halftime lead.

  • Lancaster drops hoops pair at Westwood

    The Lancaster Bruins, in different ways, dropped a pair of Region III-AAAA games on Friday night at Westwood High School in Blythewood.
    The LHS boys fell in a close loss, 64-62 and the Lady Bruins were defeated, 74-47 in the varsity opener.
    Lancaster, in the close loss in the nightcap, had a shot to force overtime as Ronj Stevenson was fouled on a three-point shot with no time on the clock.
    He hit his first shot to make it a two-point game, 64-62, but couldn’t hit the rest and the Red Hawks held on for the close win.

  • Lady Jackets trip Central in split

    PAGELAND – Buford split in a Region IV-AA trip to Central of Pageland for hardwood play Friday night.
    The Lady Jackets notched a 38-22 win, but the CHS Eagles prevailed in the nightcap, 60-50 to earn the hoops split.
    The BHS girls, with a strong second half, registered the 16-point win over the Lady Eagles.
    Buford led 17-11 at the half, and used a 21-11 surge in the second half to take the region win.
