  • First state college all-star game slated March 23 in Greenville

    GREENVILLE – Two Palmetto State coaching legends will lead opposing squads of the best college football seniors in the inaugural South Carolina College All Star Bowl on March 23.
    Former Clemson head coach Danny Ford will lead the Upper State team and South Carolina State’s Willie Jeffries will lead the Lower State team for the 3 p.m. game at North Greenville University’s Younts Stadium.

    RICHBURG –  Two of the area’s top high school football players and a successful first-year head coach earned top honors for the 2012 season from the Founders Federal Credit Union Tri-County Football Coaches Association.
    Lewisville High School running back Mac Means and York High School ace defensive back Lee Wright were saluted along with Lewisville High School head football coach Will Mitchell.

    CHESNEE – The fifth-ranked Chesnee Eagles started fast and soared to a 35-14 win over Andrew Jackson in the Class AA Division II Upper State football playoffs Friday night at the CHS field.
    The Eagles, 10-1, built a 35-0 halftime lead and cruised to the 21-point win over the Vols, who fought to the finish, but couldn’t overcome the Eagles early surge.

    BUFORD – The rematch saw the Chesterfield Rams gain a measure of revenge.
    Host Buford, facing the Rams for the second time this season, saw its 2012 football season come to an abrupt end Friday night.
    The visiting Chesterfield Rams, who fell to BHS 43-39 three weeks ago in week nine regular-season play, turned the tables on the Jackets with a 47-14 win in the second round of the Class AA Division II Upper State playoffs at Jackets Stadium.

    BUFORD – Buford High School senior quarterback-defensive end Tripp Wright is making the most of his senior football season.

    The same couldn’t be said for his junior campaign, which was cut short.

  • Lady Vols third in final AA poll

    The Andrew Jackson Lady Volunteers volleyball team earned a No. 3 ranking in the final Class AA state poll.

    The poll was released this week following the state playoff matches held Saturday at White Knoll High School.

    The Indian Land High School girls cross country team placed eighth in the Class AA state meet Saturday, Nov. 3, at Sandhills Research Center in Columbia. The IL boys team came in 14th.

    The Lancaster High School Lady Bruins finished 14th overall at the Class AAAA state meet at the Sandhills Research Center on Saturday, Nov. 3.
