  • Jackets down Red Devils

    BUFORD –  Buford capped a home sweep with a milestone win Friday, Dec. 14.
    The Jackets, avenging a tough loss to Class A’s No. 1 ranked Great Falls Red Devils, put the finishing touches on the Buford broom job in a 45-42 overtime win.
    The Lady Jackets opened the varsity twin bill with a 49-34 victory to improve the BHS girls, rated No. 9 in Class AA, to 6-1.
    The boys game was a battle to the finish with Buford taking the three-point OT win.

  • Futbol Club’s U18 team has solid fall

    The Lancaster Futbol Club saw a host of new players and coaches for its  2012 season.
    The LFC consisted of a U12 boys, U16 boys and U16 girls, with coaches Steve Cauthen, Todd Williams and longtime Lancaster coach Joel Patterson.
    These teams joined the existing U18 Girls, led by coach Lon Christensen, for a most successful and exciting season.

  • Bruins top Trojans, even region mark

    The Lancaster Bruins delivered in a big way to even their region roundball mark Tuesday, Dec. 11 in the LHS gym.

    The Bruins knocked off Region III-AAAA boys preseason favorite Northwestern with a 62-54 win over the Trojans, who fell to 2-7.

    Buford High School head football coach Mike Wells, a S.C. Shrine Bowl assistant, said it’s been a busy week preparing for the 76th annual all-star football game at Gibbs Stadium on the Wofford College campus in Spartanburg. Kickoff Saturday is at 1 p.m.

    Andrew Jackson split a non-region twin bill with Class AAAA foe Lugoff-Elgin on Tuesday, Dec. 11 at the Demons gym.

  • Warriors hold on, split with Cycs

    INDIAN LAND – Indian Land held on for a split of a non-region twin bill with Class AAA foe Chester on Monday, Dec. 10.

    The Warriors, 6-1, topped the Cyclones in the nightcap when it took an 89-80 comeback win.

  • Bruins move mat mark to 4-1

    The Lancaster Bruins’ wrestling team, after dropping their first loss, rebounded with three straight wins to push their record to 4-1 on the season.

    The LHS wrestlers defeated Blythewood, 57-18 and then swept a home tri-match with Lewisville and Parkwood.

  • Hartsville holds on to edge in Buford wrestling

    Buford’s late flurry wasn’t enough as the Jackets dropped a 41-39 loss to Class AAA Hartsville at the BHS gym on Thursday, Dec. 6.
    BHS closed the match with three straight wins, but it wasn’t enough to earn the comeback victory over the Red Foxes.
    “It was an even match and they just had a few more points than we did,” Buford High coach John Mahaffey said. “I was proud of our effort and our senior leadership has been outstanding from the start.”

  • County hoops round up

    Buford swept a non-region twin bill from visiting McBee on Friday, Dec. 7.
    The Jackets posted a 53-39 win after the Lady Jackets edged the Lady Panthers, 44-43.
    In the boys game, Buford, 2-3, built an early lead and stayed in control for the 14-point win over the Panthers.
    The Jackets opened up a 13-10 lead after one period and used a 17-11 spurt in the second quarter to forge a 30-21 halftime spread.
    BHS built a 41-29 lead after three before taking the victory.
