  • Bruins wrestlers roll in win over Knights

    The Lancaster Bruins notched their fourth straight wrestling win with a 49-30 home win over Class A foe North Central High School on Thursday night in the LHS gym.
    The Bruins took the early lead and stayed on top for the decisive victory.
    “We had a good start and we were able to keep the lead,” LHS coach Leon Boulware said.
    Adam Varney, Jordan Hamrick and Chris Stevenson each had a pin for the
    Bruins, who were coming off a home sweep of Buford, Lewisville and Camden Military Academy on Tuesday.

  • Lady Jackets stay unbeaten

    BUFORD – The Buford High School girls basketball continued their solid early-season play, taking a 46-41 win over Great Falls on Tuesday night.

    The Lady Jackets’ five-point win gave BHS a split after the top-rated Red Devils notched an 86-61 win over the Yellow Jackets.

  • Rallies key Bruins’ sweep

    KERSHAW – Visiting Lancaster used rallies to post a hoops sweep of rival Andrew Jackson on Friday night.

    The Lady Bruins, down 24-18 at the half, picked up the pace to notch a 59-49 comeback win in the opener.

    In the nightcap, the Bruins, down 9-1 early, responded to post an 85-57 win over the Vols.

    AJ, in the boys game, came out blazing behind the play of sharpshooter Dustin Eddins, who led the Vols with 17, including five treys.

  • Fast start fuels Lady Jackets’ win

    The unbeaten Buford High girls pushed their basketball record to 2-0 with a 59-23 win over North Central to give the Jackets a split of their 2011-12 home opener Friday night.

    North Central avoided the sweep with a 46-45 win in the nightcap.

    The Buford girls, who rolled to a 53-38 road win over Lewisville in their opener on Wednesday, came out strong against the Lady Knights to notch the 36-point win.

  • Wright earns first Vols’ victory

    McBEE – The Andrew Jackson Volunteers used a team effort to present first-year AJ boys basketball coach Danny Wright his first win in a 55-50 victory over McBee on Thursday night.

    The five-point AJ win gave the Vols a split of the non-region twin bill.

    In the opener, McBee notched a 51-43 win over the AJ girls.

    Wright, named AJ’s boys coach earlier this fall, saw his team lead from start to finish for the road win.

  • LHS drops wrestling opener at Chester

    Chester shot to a 30-6 lead and stayed in control for a 53-27 win over Lancaster on Thursday night in the CHS gym.

    The Bruins rallied to slice the gap to 29-18, but Chester, the No. 2 team in Class AAA, posted four wins in the final six matches to gain the 26-point win.

    “I saw a lot of good things in this match,” LHS coach Leon Boulware said. “We were facing the No. 2 team in Class AAA and it shows where we are.
