  • Rams down AJ golfers

    The Andrew Jackson High School golf team fell to Chesterfield, dropping a 172-187 loss to the Rams on March 27.

    The Vols were led by Mason Sowell who shot a 40. Luke Benfield had a 45 and Parker Deese carded a 50. Tad McCowan shot a 52.

    Jordan Collins finished with a 57. Brian Greene and Raegen Brewer each had a 59.Ameila Rhyne shot a 60.

    AJ dropped a three-way match, falling to North Central and Lugoff-Elgin.

    LE shot a 207, followed by NCHS with a 210 and AJ posted a 214.

    Mason Sowell led AJ with a 43. Luke Benfield had a 51.

  • Lady Vols beat Rams

    The Andrew Jackson Lady Volunteers softball team edged Chesterfield, 2-1 in Region IV-AA softball play on Friday.

    Rebecca Price hurled the win for the AJ girls.

    AJ took a 1-0 lead with a run in the first inning and added a single run in the fourth frame and held on for the win.

    Savannah Small led the Lady Vols with two hits.

    Kinley Killough, Maddie Baker, Morgan Eason and Price each had a hit for the Lady Vols.

    AJ hosted Lancaster in a non-region softball game on Tuesday night.

  • Swim team sets registration dates

    Swim team registration for the Lancaster Piranhas summer swim team is April 16-May 5 at the Springdale Recreation Center.

    A registration and parent information meeting is April 17 in Kershaw.

    The Lancaster County swim team and Kershaw will have a combined team this season and compete in the Metrolina swim league.

    The team is open to boys and girls, ages 5-18 as of June 1, 2018.

    Cost is $63 per child, which includes a swim cap and T-shirt.

  • Vols, Warriors post rivalry wins

    Andrew Jackson made it two wins over rival Lancaster High School this season, blanking the Bruins, 2-0 in prep soccer on Monday night at AJ’s Volunteer Stadium.

    Jared Truesdale and Mason McKittrick each tallied a goal to boost the Vols to the win over the Bruins.

    AJ keeper Tyler Williams posted the shutout for the Vols.

    Earlier this season, AJ posted a win over Lancaster at Memorial Stadium, prevailing on penalty kicks in the match.

    The Andrew Jackson junior varsity soccer team also won Monday, taking the victory on penalty kicks.

  • Lancers split with Bantams

    The University of South Carolina Lancaster Lancers baseball team split a four-game series with USC Union at the Lancaster High School baseball field over the weekend.

    The USCU Bantams won the first two games, 6-4 and 7-2 on Friday.

    The Lancers came back for two wins Saturday, rolling 11-5 and 17-1.

    In the 16-run win on Saturday to cap the series, Jared Firmstone led the Lancers with three hits. Bo Owens and Walker McDowell each had two hits, with McDowell ripping a double.

    Josh Evans belted a grand slam and Nick Cicci clubbed a home run.

  • Vols rally to top Bruins

    Andrew Jackson came back strong to take a 7-3 win over rival Lancaster High School at the LHS baseball field on Monday night.

    The Vols, down 3-0 after two innings, scored four in the third inning to take a 4-3 lead and added three in the sixth inning to seal the four-run win over the Bruins.

    Brett Percival paced the Volunteers with three hits, including a double and triple, a RBI and scored a run.

    Will Hudson had two hits, scored two runs and drove in a run. William Wrape supplied two hits, a RBI and scored a run.

  • Rock Hill edges LHS golfers

    The Lancaster Bruins dropped their first loss of the 2018 high school golf season, falling to Class AAAAA foe Rock Hill High School by two shots.

    The Bearcats shot a 156 to top a three-way match with the Bruins and South Pointe High School at the Rock Hill Country Club on Thursday.

    Lancaster, 7-1 on the season, finished with a 158 and South Pointe shot a 182.

    Brady Hinkle and Simon Wright each shot a 38 to lead the Bruins. Trey Crenshaw had a 39.

    Mason Tucker and Baylee Evans each had a 43 for the Bruins.

  • Bruins blank York netters

    The Lancaster High School boys tennis team continued its solid play, blanking York High School 6-0 on Thursday.

    The Bruins’ Isaac Thomas won in the No. 1 singles match on a forfeit as York’s Blake Williams was out with a back injury.

    Connor Palmeri (L) defeated Jackson Montgomery (Y), 7-5, 6-3.

    Jacob Hudson (L) defeated David Good (Y), 6-3, 6-4.

    Zack Onisick (L) defeated Noah Arnold (Y), 6-2, 6-0.

  • Bruins down Cougars

    The Lancaster High School boys soccer team improved to 5-3 in Region III-AAAA play with a 4-3 home win over York High School at Memorial Stadium on Thursday night.

    The Bruins, 6-6 overall, were led by Ernest Nunez who scored two goals in the LHS win.

    Jonathan Baker and Isaac Marin each had a goal for LHS.

    Marin had an assist as did Seth Blackmon and Jacob Cato, who assisted on a pair of goals in the Bruins’ win over the Cougars.

    Lancaster travels to rival Andrew Jackson High School to battle the 8-2 Volunteers on Monday night.

  • Lady Vols defeat Central, 6-3

    The Andrew Jackson Lady Volunteers softball team downed Central of Pageland 6-3 in Region IV-AA play on Wednesday at AJ.

    Rebecca Price hurled the Lady Vols to the win, yielding 10 hits.

    Caroline Wrenn led the AJ offense with two hits and a RBI. AJ senior Savannah Small had a hit and drove in two runs.

    Carley Sims and Makayla Cairnes each had a hit and drove in a run. Morgan Eason also had a hit in the Lady Vols offense.
