  • LHS swimmers notch two wins

    The Lancaster High School swim team captured a double dual meet, topping Hartsville, 309-24 and the Governor’s School, 306-24.
    The Lancaster swimmers were led by Lauren Spencer and Makenzy Mills who had two wins each.
    Braydon Powers, Taylor Teague, Luis Bravo, Andres Cuella, Trevor Tipton, Abbi Denyer, Jacques Caravaca, Samuel Page, Alaina Houghtaling and Matthew Rogers each had one win each.

  • Rams ignite, down Warriors, 41-21

    CHESTERFIELD – Indian Land versus Chesterfield looked to be a battle of ground versus pass.
    Could the Warriors control the clock with their running game, or would the quick strike passing attack of the Rams prevail?
    The first half was mostly a stalemate, but in a two-and-a-half minute third-quarter stretch, the host Rams scored 17 points.
    That stretch proved to be the turning point in the Rams’ 41-21 win Friday night.
    The Warriors defense held up well for the most part in the first half.

  • Stallions dash by Jackets, 44-13

    BUFORD – The host Buford Yellow Jackets fell to the Lee Central Stallions, 44-13 on Friday night in the Region IV-AA football opener for both teams.
    For the third straight week, the 1-4 Jackets were up against an unbeaten team, and weren’t able to pull off the upset.  
    LC amassed a whooping 648 yards total offense on its way to the region win.  It was the first game that the Yellow Jackets’ opponent outgained them this season.

  • Falcons soar by Bruins, 35-14

    FORT MILL – In a game of plenty of offense, a couple of key defensive stops sparked host Nation Ford to a 35-14 win over Lancaster at the Falcons’ field on Friday night.
    Nation Ford, up 14-7 in the second period, delivered a pair of pivotal stops on downs deep in the Falcons’ territory to take control.
    NFHS, on a fourth and two play at its 26, turned back the Bruins to get the ball back early in the second period.

  • Vols blank Knights, 26-0

    BOONETOWN – Surging Andrew Jackson opened Region IV-AA play in a big way, blanking rival North Central High School, 26-0 at the rival Knights’ field on Friday night.
    The Volunteers, with the shutout, improved to 3-1 with their third straight win.
    The Vols scored four times during the game, with senior Dalton Haven tallying a pair of touchdowns to key AJ’s victory.
    Haven’s first touchdown came on a three-yard run at 5:23 in the second quarter.
    The extra point was blocked, leaving AJ up, 6-0.

  • Warriors duo earns Tri-County honors

    FORT MILL – Two Indian Land High School football players reaped top honors at the weekly meeting of the Tri-County Football Coaches Association on Tuesday at Towne Tavern in Fort Mill.
    IL’s Robbie Cshuta was named the Division II Defensive Player of the week for his effort in the Warriors’ 28-21 home loss to Broome. Cshuta posted 11 tackles, eight solos and a tackle for loss in the seven-point defeat.
    IL’s William Makowski and Jene Thompson of Lewisville shared the Div. II Defensive Lineman of the Week.

  • IL tennis opens region play with win

    The Indian Land Warriors opened region tennis play with a 6-0 win over Chester High on Tuesday at CHS.
    The Lady Warriors netters improved to 1-2, 1-0 in region play.
    IL visited Nation Ford on Thursday.
    The Lady Warriors, on Sept. 7, fell to Northwestern, 4-3.
    On Aug. 25, IL dropped a 5-2 loss to Nation Ford of Fort Mill.
    Hailey Hutchins (IL) defeated ShanQuavious Hemphill, 6-0, 6-0.  
    Nia Pressley (IL) defeated Oshayanna Sanders, 6-0, 6-0.
    Brianna Garris (IL) defeated Kayla Reid, 6-1, 6-2

  • BHS’s Griffin goes all out

    BUFORD – When Buford High School defensive coordinator Jimmy Clyburn compiled the latest Jackets’ tackling points, it came as no surprise BHS senior linebacker Tucker Griffin ranks among the team leaders.
    Griffin, a second-year member of the BHS varsity football team, has 85 points on the season, two behind junior standout linebacker Noah Vincent’s 87.
    Griffin, on the season, has 23 first hits, 22 assists, two tackles for loss, a sack and two caused fumbles.

  • Lady Jackets look to rebound this week

    The Buford High School Lady Jackets volleyball team will look to get back on track this week in Region IV-AA court play.
    The Lady Jackets, the defending region volleyball champions, dropped a 3-0 home match to North Central High School on Thursday.
    NCHS, the region runner-up last season to BHS, rolled to the win, 25-18, 25-17 and 25-17. A year ago, Buford and North Central split in regular-season play, with BHS capturing the crown in a special playoff match at Central High School in Pageland.
    Buford will visit North Central for a Region IV-AA rematch Oct. 4.

  • County duo to open region play

    The 2016 Lancaster County high school football season is just into its first month of play, and two schools are looking at the “second season.”
    Buford and Andrew Jackson launch Region IV-AA play Friday night.
    The Jackets, 1-3, are home to battle Lee Central High School of Bishopville, while AJ has a short bus ride in store, with the 2-1 Volunteers venturing to Boonetown to face North Central in neighboring Kershaw County.
    Lancaster and Indian Land are still in non-region games.
