  • Lions rally, win Comporium tourney title

    BUFORD – Lewisville completed a 4-0 run to take the title in the annual Comporium Preseason Baseball tournament on Saturday night at Buford Park.

    The Lions, down 7-4, scored four runs in the seventh inning to notch the 8-7 comeback win over the Carolina Royals of Charlotte and take the tournament title.

    The Lions’ Russell Noland singled home two runs with an out to lift Lewisville to the victory.

    Noland and Jack Jordan each had two hits to lead the Lions offense.

  • Warriors split in beach tournament

    The Indian Land High School baseball team went 2-2 in the Carolina Border Battle tournament in Myrtle Beach over the weekend.

    The Warriors opened play Thursday with a 9-6 win over Carolina Forest High School and capped play with a 6-5 win over A.L. Brown High School of Kannapolis, N.C., on Saturday.

    In the one-run win over A.L. Brown, Wes Barfield was the winning pitcher in seven innings of work. He allowed eight hits, five runs, four earned runs and two walks. He struck out four.

    Lawson Otte led the offense with two hits and scored twice.

  • Warriors’ Daley splits in all-star tournament

    NORTH MYRTLE BEACH – Kyle Daley, the Indian Land High School senior 152-pound star wrestler, capped his prep mat career with a split during the annual North-South All-Star Classic at North Myrtle Beach over the weekend.

    Daley, a four-time state qualifier and three-time all-state wrestler, lost on a pin and won on a pin during the annual North-South All-Star Classic, which features the top senior high school wrestlers in the state.

  • Vols rip Knights in region opener

    The Andrew Jackson Volunteers opened Region IV-AA baseball play, rolling to a 12-0 win over North Central in five innings at the Vols field on Monday night.

    The game was scheduled for Tuesday, but moved to Monday with the forecast of rain in the area.

    Griffin Gardner paced the AJ win, posting the win with nine strikeouts. He allowed two hits, no runs and no walks.

    Will Hudson worked an inning and fanned two.

    Gardner led the AJ offense with three hits, including two singles, and a three-run home run, and five RBIs.

  • Warriors sweep BC Bearcats

    The host Indian Land Warriors soccer teams scored a pair of wins over Brookland-Cayce in prep soccer play at the ILHS Reservation on Wednesday night.

    The ILHS Lady Warriors, in a rematch of the Class AAA girls state title match last season, rolled to a 6-1 win over the Lady Bearcats.

    The Indian Land girls, who downed BC 2-1 – (5-3 in penalty kicks) last spring at Irmo High School, blitzed the Lady Bearcats on Wednesday.

    The Lady Warriors had three goals from Kailee Erwin, two from Brianna Bishop and a goal from Emily Gerdes in the rout.

  • Bruins banking on veterans

    The 2018 Lancaster High School baseball team sports a new look up top, but the Bruins have their share of returnees for the 2018 season.

    Trevor Hammond, a former Bruins player who served as an assistant coach, is now guiding the LHS baseball program.

    Hammond can count on a host of veteran players to boost the program this season.

    Hammond also has his share of talented newcomers on the Bruins’ squad.

  • Barnes signs at Fort Valley State

    Lancaster High School senior offensive lineman Keavius Barnes has a dream to play in the National Football League.

    His vision to possibly reach pro football took a key step Wednesday morning in the LHS media center.

    Barnes, a 6-2, 320-pounder, signed a scholarship to play at Fort Valley State University (Ga.) as family, teammates and coaches witnessed.

    “Since I was about 9 years old, I’ve had a dream to play college football,” Barnes said. “This feels good and I’m very excited about it.

  • Warriors’ Daley in North-South Classic

    INDIAN LAND – Indian Land High School senior wrestler Kyle Daley will be among the state mat elite this weekend.

    Daley, the Warriors’ 152-pound ace, will compete in the 30th annual North-South Wrestling Classic at North Myrtle Beach High School in North Myrtle Beach. He will wrestle with the Class AAA-AAAA North All-Star team.

    Daley, a state runner-up in the 2018 Class AAA individual state championship tournament last weekend in Anderson, posted a 51-8 record this season with 30 pins.

  • Flynn, Jackets look to continue success

    The Buford Yellow Jackets have a new look for the 2018 baseball season, but they’re hoping to continue their successful ways of past diamond campaigns.

    The Jackets, 13-17-1 last season, finished third in the Class AA Lower State and captured the District VII baseball crown.

    A host of players are back in the maroon and gold fold under the guidance of first-year head coach Gavin Flynn, a key part of Buford’s success in seasons gone by.

  • Comporium baseball tourney continues today

    Play in the annual Comporium Preseason Baseball Invtiational will be completed over the next two days – today and Saturday.

    Rain washed out action at the Andrew Jackson and Buford high school baseball fields on Thursday.

    Third-round bracket play at Andrew Jackson High School has two games today, Lancaster facing Chester at 4:30 p.m., with host AJ meeting Lewisville at 7.

    Games today at Buford feature Central of Pageland meeting the Carolina Royals at 4:30 p.m., with South Pointe facing Buford at 7.
