  • Vols capture two wins over Rams

    CHESTERFIELD – The Andrew Jackson Volunteers swept the Chesterfield Rams in their Region IV-AA road basketball twin bill on Friday night.

    The AJ boys broke their losing streak with a 68-63 win, and the Lady Vols continued their march to the Class AA Upper State playoffs with a 70-37 win over the Lady Rams.

    The Lady Vols dominated scoring in all four quarters of their game. AJ, with a 14-point lead at the end of the first quarter, held a 22-8 lead.

  • AJ to tangle with Liberty

    KERSHAW – The Andrew Jackson Volunteers wrestling team is continuing its school-record run.

    The Region IV-AA champion Volunteers are headed to the Class A-AA Upper State championship match after posting two wins Saturday afternoon in the opening three rounds of the tournament at AJ.

    The Vols received a first-round bye before facing Ninety Six and Cheraw, the defending Class A-AA state champion.

  • ILHS to battle West Oak

    INDIAN LAND – The Indian Land Warriors are Upstate-title round bound.

    The Warriors, 27-3, earned a first-ever bid to the Class AAA Upper State wrestling championship round with a tough 41-24 home win over Crescent High School of Iva on Monday night.

    The Warriors led the entire match, but Crescent kept it close.

  • Volunteers, Jackets wrestlers garner all-region accolades

    Region IV-AA wrestling champion Andrew Jackson along with Buford each had five wrestlers named to the all-region team for the 2017-18 season.

    AJ, the region champion with a 7-1 mark, was led by Matthew Kirk (113), Hunter Haven (152) and Kalab Haven (170).

    The region coaches also voted six wrestlers honored as at-large selections from the 14 weight classes, which included the Volunteers’ Dalton Mackey (120) and Tyleik Elder (145).

  • IL Warrior wrestlers win seven region titles

    The Region IV-AAA wrestling champion Indian Land High School had seven Warriors earn individual region weight class championships at the tournament Wednesday night in Camden.

    The Warriors, fresh off winning the region dual team championship with four wins, including two shutouts last Saturday afternoon, placed 11 wrestlers in the region individual tournament finals at CHS.

  • Lady Jackets win for split with Rams

    CHESTERFIELD – The Buford High girls led from start to finish to highlight a Region IV-AA hoops split with a 61-50 win over Chesterfield on Tuesday night at CHS.

    The Jackets, in the nightcap, dropped a 60-51 loss to the Rams.

    The Buford Lady Jackets, 10-9, 4-5, opened an early lead and stayed on top to take the 11-point road win.

    BHS took a 19-10 first-period lead and held the upper hand, 32-28 at the half.

  • Lady Bruins win earns LHS split

    FORT MILL – The Lancaster Lady Bruins opened strong, but the LHS boys couldn’t complete the hardwood task in a non-region split at Fort Mill High School on Wednesday night.

    The game, a make-up contest, saw the LHS girls roll to a 45-24 win, but the Bruins dropped a 57-42 loss to Fort Mill in the nightcap.

    The Lancaster girls, 9-7, 2-5, opened an early lead and stayed in control for the 21-point win for the season sweep of the FMHS Lady Yellow Jackets.

    Lancaster took a 49-32 home win over the Fort Mill girls on Dec. 5.

  • Blazers ignite, blaze to wins over Bruins

    The Ridge View Blazers, true to their nickname, blazed in the second half in a Region III-AAAA sweep of host Lancaster High School on Tuesday night.

    The Lady Bruins, locked in a tight hardwood battle with the Lady Blazers, dropped a 73-48 loss in the varsity opener.

    In the nightcap, the Bruins, much like the girls, were close at the half before the Blazers ignited for the 74-45 win.

    In the boys game, Lancaster trailed 28-26 at the half, but RVHS stormed in the second half to secure the 29-point win.

  • Lady Vols roll in split with ILHS

    KERSHAW – Another game closer to the Class AA playoffs, the Andrew Jackson Lady Vols scored a 51-point, non-region victory over the Indian Land Lady Warriors, 71-20 on Tuesday night.

    The boys game was much closer, with the Warriors surging in the final minutes for a 55-48 victory over the Volunteers.

    A lack of Lady Warriors defense was evident as the Lady Vols used teamwork and smart play to secure their lopsided win.

  • Lady Vols trounce Braves in region play

    KERSHAW – The surging Andrew Jackson Lady Volunteers drove toward the Class AA Upper State basketball playoffs with another solid win Friday night.
    The No. 7 Lady Vols topped the Cheraw Lady Braves, 44-38 at home for a Region IV-AA split.
    The AJ boys came up 10 points short in their battle with the Braves, falling 67-57.
    The Lady Vols took charge with a two-point lead in the first quarter, 11-9.
