  • Vols vex Warriors, 47-24

     

    INDIAN LAND – Andrew Jackson’s ball-hawking defense came up with six turnovers and a blocked punt to lead the Volunteers to a 47-24 victory against Indian Land on IL homecoming night at the Reservation on Friday, Oct. 25.

  • Lady Vols, Jackets host playoff matches

     The Andrew Jackson Lady Volunteers open the Class AA Upper State volleyball playoffs as they host Pelion at 6 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 28.

    The AJ girls, led by coach John Verdugo, earned the top seed after winning the Conference IV-AA title for the third time in the last four seasons.

  • Wright comes on strong

     

    BUFORD – Buford senior lineman Santrez Wright, in terms of his football progress, has gone from a question mark to an exclamation point.

    Buford High School offensive line coach Wes James wasn’t quite sure about Wright’s future contribution as a player a few seasons back.

  • Four Warriors players, AJ’s King reap Div. II honors

     

    Five Lancaster County high school football players – four from Indian Land and one from Andrew Jackson – swept the week eight awards at the weekly meeting of the Tri-County Football Coaches Association on Tuesday, Oct. 22.

  • Northern Guilford High names stadium for Roscoe

     

    Johnny Roscoe, the former Lancaster High School football coach, retired from coaching after a 42-year career last winter, but this fall he’s stayed close to the game.

  • County skid to end Friday

     

    Two weeks of county high school football futility is going to end Friday night.

    At least one game will have a county winner as week nine of the 2013 regular-season high school football campaign unfolds.

  • Lady Vols capture region volleyball title

     

    The Andrew Jackson Lady Volunteers wrapped up the Region IV-AA volleyball championship with a 3-0 home win over Indian Land on Thursday, Oct. 17.

    The Lady Vols, 15-3, 9-0, swept the IL Lady Warriors, 25-13, 25-15 and 25-9.

  • Rams spoil AJ Vols homecoming Friday

    KERSHAW – Chesterfield sprinted to a quick 21-0 first quarter lead and never looked back as the Rams spoiled Andrew Jackson’s homecoming, 48-13, Friday night in Kershaw.
    CHS quarterback Dillon Rivers threw five touchdown passes, completing 23 of 31 for 398 yards. David Grant snared nine passes, including three TDs. Chuck Jackson caught eight passes for 185 yards and a touchdown. Quan Watson rushed for 71 yards on eight carries, including two touchdowns.

  • Blue Eagles soar by Bruins

    CLOVER – The Clover Blue Eagles only wanted one thing for the 2013 homecoming – the first football win in 26 tries. They got it. Clover was dominant in its 42-21 win.
    The Blue Eagles (1-7, 1-3) put the pedal to the floor and didn’t let up. Clover, from the wing T formation, rolled up 304 yards on the ground and added another 138 through the air. Clover’s first win in three years came at the expense of Lancaster’s fifth straight loss.

  • Buford falls to Cheraw on Senior night

    Two yards may as well be 100 for a team in the midst of a scoring drought.
    That notion rang as clear as the Cheraw sideline bell on Friday night when Buford High School fell to the Braves, 19-0, in region play.
    After time expired, the only thing Yellow Jackets football coach Mike Wells could do was stare at the same field shaking his head in the same fashion as BHS senior Troy Cunningham.
    Chances were there, but Buford just couldn’t finish.
