  • Cheraw wins Region IV-AA wrestling title

    Cheraw went unbeaten at 4-0 to capture the Region IV-AA wrestling championship at Andrew Jackson High School on Saturday.
    The Braves posted wins over North Central, Andrew Jackson. Buford and Chesterfield to capture the team title.
    North Central, which went 3-1, was second followed by AJ, which posted a 2-2 mark, Buford, 1-3, and Chesterfield, which was 0-4 for the day.
    Host AJ highlighted its day with a 42-36 win over Buford, avenging an earlier loss to the Jackets.

  • Lady Bruins rally for win over York

    The Lancaster Lady Bruins rallied late to net a road win and an eventual split with Region III-AAAA foe York on Friday night.
    The LHS girls, 6-8, 3-3, trailed for most of the game, but came on strong in the final quarter to take the 44-35 road win.
    Lancaster, down 33-32 going to the final period, picked up the pace to outscore the Lady Cougars for the nine-point win.

  • Volunteers hold on for split

    CHERAW – The Andrew Jackson Volunteers split a pair of Region IV-AA basketball games with the Cheraw High School Braves in Cheraw on Friday night.
    The AJ boys won a hard-fought game, 67-63. The Lady Vols dropped a close 48-45 loss.
    The Volunteers, in the nightcap, hit the floor running against the Cheraw Braves. The fast-paced game saw the teams trade the lead several times.
    AJ Dontarius James and Kadarius Kirkland broke the ball down court several times for points.

  • Warriors finish strong, sweep Lions

    INDIAN LAND – The Indian Land High School basketball teams stepped out of region play Thursday night and stepped up to the hardwood challenge.

    The Warriors, hosting Class A foe Lewisville, took two from the visiting Lions.

    The IL boys, with a strong finish, notched a 75-66 win to complete the sweep.

  • Bruins honor football standouts

    The 2016 Lancaster High School football season didn’t go as planned, but the team had its share of stars and they took their final Bruins bows Monday night in the LHS auditorium.

    The LHS coaching staff honored a host of players for their play on the 2016 season, a 5-6 record and a Class AAAA Upper State playoff bid.

    “Our record wasn’t what we wanted it to be, but we want to recognize our players and their achievements on the season,” LHS coach Bobby Collins said.

  • Vols edge Eagles for sweep

    PAGELAND – The Andrew Jackson Volunteers pulled off a hardwood sweep of rival Central with a last-second 50-49 victory over the Eagles in Pageland on Tuesday night.
    The Lady Vols, with a late flurry, defeated the Lady Eagles by 20, 48-28.
    The boys game was much tighter, with the AJ boys netting the win at the wire.
    Just before the final buzzer, with the score tied 49-all, AJ’s Jamie Hinson was fouled and had two free throws.
    Hinson missed the first foul shot, but netted the second to give the No. 7 Vols a thrilling 50-49 win.

  • ILHS Lady Warriors roll in rout of Lady Cyclones

    INDIAN LAND – The Indian Land High Lady Warriors continued their solid Region IV-AAA play, rolling to a 65-18 win over Chester on Tuesday night in the ILHS gym.
    The Lady Warriors’ 37-point win evened the IL girls record at 7-7 overall, 4-1 in region play.
    The IL girls win gave the Warriors a split after the Chester boys rolled to an 80-57 win over the IL boys.
    The Lady Warriors opened strong and cruised to the lopsided win over the Lady Cyclones.

  • Balanced attack keys Lady Jackets to win

    CHERAW – The Buford High girls led from start to finish for a 60-43 win to highlight a road split with Region IV-AA foe Cheraw High on Tuesday.
    The Jackets, in the nightcap, dropped a tough 58-49 loss to the Braves.
    The BHS girls, 5-10, 3-5, opened a 14-10 lead after a period of play and then took control with a 14-5 surge to gain a 28-15 lead at the half.
    The Lady Jackets, on a 19-12 charge, extended their lead to 20, 47-27, before taking the 17-point win.

  • Jackets drop home pair to Lee Central Stallions

    Lee Central, completing a Region IV-AA sweep of host Buford, used a solid finish to foil the Jackets’ upset bid of the No. 5 Lee Central Stallions on Friday night at BHS.
    LCHS snapped a 42-all tie after three periods with a 28-22 surge to take a 70-64 win over the Jackets.
    In the opener, the Lee Central girls rallied in the second half to gain a 34-28 victory.
    The 12-4 Stallions, unbeaten in region play at 6-0, made the most of their foul shots, netting 27-35, including 19 of 27 in the final period.
    The Jackets were 9-22 at the foul line.

  • IL Warriors notch two hoop wins over Griffins

    Indian Land captured a pair of Region IV-AAA home basketball wins in a sweep of Fairfield Central High of Winnsboro at the Warriors’ gym on Friday night.
    The Lady Warriors opened with a 42-39 win and the IL boys capped the sweep with a 52-49 victory over the Griffins.
    The Warriors opened with a good start to take a 12-5 lead after one period, but Fairfield Central stayed close  as the Griffins trailed 28-21 at the half.
    Indian Land led 41-38 with a period to go, and the Warriors held on for the three-point win.
