  • IL Warriors spear Eagles

    Indian Land made the most of a Region IV-AA road trip to Pageland where the Warriors, in impressive fashion, swept the host CHS Eagles on Tuesday, Jan. 21.
    The IL boys rolled to a 75-52 league win and the Lady Warriors blitzed the Lady Eagles, 69-37.
    The IL boys took control early, gaining a 22-11 lead after one period. The Warriors held a 35-21 spread at the break and owned a 58-35 edge after three periods.
    Darnell Rogers led Indian Land with 18 points. Lee McCall followed with 12 and Derries Hampton hit 10 points.

  • IL Warriors notch 4-0 mark in region duals tournament

    The ninth-ranked Indian Land High wrestling team posted a 4-0 mark in the Region IV-AA Duals at Cheraw High School on Saturday Jan. 18.
    The Warriors highlighted their 4-0 showing with a 37-36 win over host Cheraw.
    IL, knowing it was going to forfeit four weight classes going into the match, needed a total team effort.
    IL’s Dalen Byerley, No. 1 in Class AA at 120, stepped up a weight class and pinned Cheraw’s Luke Curtis, No. 1 in Class AA at 126, in the second period.

  • LHS officials screening applications

    The new Lancaster High School head football coach will be selected from a field of 53 applicants.
    Lancaster High School officials, as part of the early hiring process, cut off applications Friday, Jan. 17.
    “We feel we have a quality field of applicants, a good mix of candidates who are head coaches and some who are assistant coaches from quality high school football programs,” Lancaster High School athletic director Mark Strickland said. “We also have some applicants with college coaching experience.”

  • Jackets wing Falcons twice

    The Buford boys basketball team wrapped up a tough week on the hardwood with a solid win.
    The Jackets capped a sweep of visiting Ben Lippen School of Columbia with a 62-50 victory over the Falcons on Saturday, Jan. 18.
    The BHS Lady Jackets notched their second straight win, topping the BL girls, 44-39.
    The Jackets, coming off region losses to AJ and Central of Pageland, handed Ben Lippen only its second loss of the season in their 12-point victory.

  • Splendid start sparks Warriors in rout of Rams


    INDIAN LAND – The No. 5 Indian Land Warriors made the most of their first home game in a month to rip the Chesterfield Rams, 86-61 in Region IV-AA play on Friday, Jan. 17.

  • Lady Jackets rally, win for split


    BUFORD – Buford experienced the high and low of a Region IV-AA hardwood nail-biter Friday, Jan. 17 in the BHS gym.

    The Lady Jackets, with a late bucket from Hanna Robinson, notched an exciting 41-40 comeback win before the BHS boys dropped a tough 66-65 setback to visiting Central High School of Pageland.

  • Lady Vols belt Braves in 58-31 victory


    CHERAW – The seventh-ranked Andrew Jackson Lady Volunteer rolled on the road to highlight a Region IV-AA split with host Cheraw High School on Friday, Jan. 17.

    The Lady Vols, who finished as the region runner-up to the CHS girls last season, earned a measure of hoops revenge with a solid 58-31 victory.

  • Lady Bruins win thriller

     The Lancaster Lady Bruins survived a Region III-AAAA scare, but prevailed to stay unbeaten in league play.

    Lancaster senior forward Aliyah Davis hit two crucial free throws to lift the 10th-ranked Lady Bruins to a 61-58 win over stubborn South Pointe at the LHS gym on Thursday, Jan. 16.

  • Volunteers making strides on the prep mat


    A 5-16 record wouldn’t cause a rush of excitement for many high school wrestling teams, but it has AJ Vols mat coach Rob Tomalis happy at this point.

    The Vols, in their second season of prep wrestling, have broken through with five wins this season, including three in Region IV-AA competition.

  • Warriors surge late to top Braves


    The Indian Land Warriors opened Region IV-AA basketball play with a 58-50 win over the Cheraw Braves on Tuesday, Jan. 14.

    The IL boys’ win gave the Warriors a split after the Lady Warriors fell in the varsity opener.
