  • Mahaffey feels young Jackets making strides

     

    The Buford High School wrestling team sports a 2-7 record, but Jackets’ veteran coach John Mahaffey said he feels his team is making progress on the mat.

    The Jackets, who started 0-3, have come on to go 2-4 in their last two outings.

  • Bruins go 2-1, place 5th in Classic tourney

     

    The Lancaster Bruins capped play in the Capital City Classic with an impressive 57-36 win over Laurens for a fifth-place finish in the three-day holiday tournament.

    Lancaster, which went 2-1 in the field, opened a 27-18 halftime lead on the Raiders of Region I-AAAA.

  • News salutes Best of 2013

     

    A pair of Buford High School star athletes earned The Lancaster News’ 2013 Athletes of the Year Award.

    Buford High girls basketball and softball ace Carley Bailey is the 2013 Female Athlete of the Year, while Jackets’ state champion wrestler Dylan Altman is the Male Athlete of the Year.

  • Warriors net title game bid in Holy Angels field

     

    The Indian Land Warriors earned a berth in the Holy Angels tournament championship game with a 78-71 win over tourney host Charlotte Catholic on Saturday, Dec. 28.

    The Warriors’ seven-point win moved IL to the title game against Myers Park High School on Monday, Dec. 30.

  • Devils top Rebels for Comporium boys title

     

    KERSHAW – Great Falls won a game highlighted by defense to notch the Comporium Christmas Classic boys championship on Saturday, Dec. 28 at Andrew Jackson High School.

    The Red Devils took the crown with a 41-40 win over the Parkwood High Rebels.

  • Lady Vols rout Knights

     

    KERSHAW – The fifth-ranked Andrew Jackson High School girls were impressive in opening play in the annual Comporium Christmas Classic at AJ on Friday, Dec. 27.

    The Lady Vols built an early lead and rolled to a 93-25 win over the North Central Lady Knights.

  • Rodgers sparks IL in win over Piedmont

     

    Indian Land launched play in the Holy Angels tournament with an exciting win.

    The Warriors, 6-1 and ranked No. 8 in the latest Class AA boys state poll, rallied from a seven-point halftime deficit to post a 75-72 overtime win over the Piedmont Panthers of Union County, N.C.

  • BHS Jackets go 1-2 in Hilton Head tournament

     

    The Buford Yellow Jackets capped the 2013 portion of their basketball season with a 1-2 showing in the Seahawk Invitational at Hilton Head High School on Monday, Dec. 23.

    The Jackets, in the matinee game with Pendleton County, Ky., dropped a 60-49 loss to the Wildcats.

  • IL Warriors honor fall sports standouts

     

    Fall’s finest in Indian Land High School 2013 fall sports drew the royal blue and gold spotlight at the annual Warriors’ fall sports awards night in the IL gym on Wednesday, Dec. 18.

    The Warriors’ football team, which finished 4-6, honored a host of standout players.
