  • BHS has solid outlook for new hoops seasons

    The Buford Yellow Jackets sport solid hope for the 2015-16 high school basketball season.
    The Lady Jackets return a strong cast to the maroon and gold fold, while the BHS boys are upbeat with their new coach Raheem Waller, who brings a wealth of hoops experience to the squad.
    The Lady Jackets are optimistic about their hoops season with a strong cast of players back for coach T.J. Armbrust, in his eighth season leading the BHS girls.

  • Andrew Jackson Vols look strong for 2015-16 basketball campaign

    KERSHAW – Once again, excitement is in the air at Andrew Jackson High School as the 2015-16 cage season begins for the Volunteers.
    The AJ boys hope to improve on last year’s record of 16-7, 10-2. The Lady Vols return eight veterans and look to improve on a 14-8 record.
    The current edition of the Lady Vols will be once again led by veteran coach Dennis Farmer, who is in his 40th season of coaching high school basketball, with 15 years at AJ.

  • LHS Bruins hardwood hopes high

    Optimism abounds for the Lancaster High School hardwood hopes this season.
    The Lady Bruins, coming off a Class AAA state title and an unbeaten season, return their share of key experience from a brilliant 27-0 hoops season.
    The LHS boys, a playoff team last winter, also have their share of seasoned players for the 2015-16 season.
    The LHS girls, of 12th-year coach Ronnie Robinson, return four starters among seven returnees for the new season as they look for a hardwood encore.

  • Lady Vols roar to crown

    RICHBURG –  The Andrew Jackson Lady Volunteers roared to the title in the Lady Lions Invitational at Lewisville High School on Nov. 24.
    The AJ girls, ninth in the Class AA state girls basketball preseason poll, swept to wins over North Central, 60-32 and Great Falls, 56-22 to capture the championship at the Richburg Class A school.
    The Lady Vols took the crown with the 34-point win over the GFHS Lady Red Devils.
    AJ opened an 8-4 lead after one period and steadily pulled away for the win.

  • Buford cheerleaders 4th in state

    The Buford High School varsity cheerleaders have built a tradition of competing in the state cheer field and their latest effort was a top five showing.
    Buford, the Region IV-AA cheer champion, posted a fourth-place effort in the state competition at the University of South Carolina’s Colonial Life Arena in Columbia on Nov. 21.
    BHS, in the state field for the 10th time in the last 11 years, posted 248 points to finish fourth overall in the top 12 field.

  • Teams launch hoops play

    The Lancaster Lady Bruins, the defending Class AAA girls state basketball champions, opened defense of their state title with a 56-38 win over Class AAA foe Wren of Piedmont in the Dorman Lady Cavalier Invitational at Dorman High in Spartanburg on Nov. 23.
    The Lady Bruins, the preseason Class AAA girls No. 1, closed strong to post the 18-point win and earn a bid to the title game Nov. 24 at DHS.
    LHS senior guard Malia Rivers, regarded as one of the top senior players in Class AAA girls, paced the Lady Bruins with 22 points, 16 in the first half.

  • Miles signs with PC Blue Hose

    Presbyterian College was in need of quality pitching and tabbed Buford High School right-hander Eric Miles to fill the mound bill.
    Miles, a two-time All-Region IV-AA pick and a Class AA all-state selection last spring, officially joined the Blue Hose fold, signing with PC on Nov. 12 at the Lancaster County Class AA school.
    “No doubt, Presbyterian is the place for me,” Miles said. “They have a great campus and when I visited there, it felt like home. They have a top-notch coaching staff and they play the game the right way.”

  • Verdugo leaving as AJ volleyball coach

    Andrew Jackson High School volleyball coach John Verdugo is yielding his duties as the Lady Volunteers’ volleyball coach.
     “After six years, I have stepped down as the head volleyball coach at Andrew Jackson High School,” Verdugo said. “It has been a privilege to work with these athletes. With the help of my assistants, coach Tammy Twitty and coach Danielle Payne, we were able to revitalize the AJ volleyball program at all levels.
    “We feel very confident the program is postured for future success,” he said.

  • LHS girls No. 1 in Class AAA

    Lancaster County, led by the defending Class AAA girls state champions Lancaster Lady Bruins, earned its share of hoops recognition as the S.C. Basketball Coaches Association released its preseason rankings along with the state’s top boys and girls players for the 2015-16 season.
    Lancaster, which finished 27-0 last season under veteran coach Ronnie Robinson, was named the top team in Class AAA.

  • CCA boys have perfect encore for state crown

    The Carolina Christian Academy boys volleyball team produced an excellent encore for the 2015 season.
    The Cougars, as they did last season, repeated the court feat with a perfect season in winning the state title for the second straight season.
    The 2014 CCA boys went 14-0 on the way to the state crown.
    The 2015 Cougars fashioned an 11-0 mark and won the South Carolina Association of Christian Schools (SCACS) Division IA state volleyball championship to highlight the school’s 19th year of play.
