  • Lady Bruins booters top Buford

    The Lancaster Lady Bruins’ soccer team evened its record at 2-2 with a 5-0 win over county rival Buford at BHS’s Jackets Stadium on Wednesday.
    The Lady Bruins’ Peyton Patterson posted the hat trick with assists from Gracie Scott, Heather McCain and Michaela Burton.
    Burton scored the other two goals on assists from Peyton Patterson and Kayla Bailey.
    The Lancaster defense was led by team captain Kayla Bailey, starters Gracie Scott, Mary DeVenny, Rebekah Sapp, and keeper Lydia Plyler.

  • Buford unbeaten in field

    The Buford Lady Jackets softball team earned the top spot in the Preseason softball tournament at BHS, rolling to an 11-0 win over Lancaster at the Lady Jackets’ field on Wednesday night.
    Buford and Lancaster entered pool play with each at 1-0 following opening round wins.
    Lancaster topped Andrew Jackson and Buford downed Northwestern, 9-2.
    Sydney Sullivan, 2-0, hurled the win, notching 10 strikeouts. She allowed three hits and a walk. Sullivan, in the Lady Jackets’ win over Northwestern, struck out 12 and allowed three hits.

  • IL girls capture L-E tourney title

    Indian Land posted a second straight 2-0 win over Lugoff-Elgin to win the Lugoff-Elgin Kickoff Classic on Monday night.
    Regan Hunter and Emily Gerdes each scored a goal for the Lady Warriors. Nia Pressley had an assist.
    Indian Land, rated fourth in Class AA girls soccer, outshot the Lady Demons, 21-3.
    Abby Chamberlain had two saves and Emma Thompson added a save in the Lady Warriors’ shutout.
    The Lady Warriors had four straight shutouts in winning the crown.
    Indian Land scored 16 goals in the tournament.

  • Lady Bruins, Jackets win in softball tourney

    Host Buford and Lancaster launched play with wins in the Preseason Softball tournament on Monday.
    The Lancaster Lady Bruins posted a 6-2 win over Andrew Jackson.
    Summer Clinton led LHS with a hit, two RBIs and a walk. Alexus Lowery and Ashley Abbott each had a hit, RBI and scored a run
    Gracie Revels and Sydney Cauthen each had a hit and scored a run. DeAsia Fisher drove in two runs.
    Kadaja Cunningham supplied a hit. Ana Watts and Jada Ames each scored a run.

  • Van Hoose leads Warriors in state mat field

    Indian Land High School wrestling coach Kevin Mager said the Warriors’ performance in their final Class A-AA state mat tournament will be vital in IL’s future.
    “We’re transitioning to Class AAA with realignment next season, so our state tournament showing is going to be big for us as we head to next year,” Mager said.
    The Warriors had three wrestlers capture all-state honors, with two third-place finishers and a fourth.

  • BHS's Barton state champ

    Buford capped a banner day on the mat with a golden moment – a coveted state wrestling championship.
    Jackets junior 220-pound grappler Dakota Barton captured a 4-1 win over Crescent’s Hunter Brucke to notch the Class A-AA state title Saturday at the Anderson Civic Center.
    Barton, the 220-pound Upstate runner-up last week, highlighted a 3-0 showing on the weekend with his decision for the gold medal.
    Barton, snapping a scoreless tie after the first period, reeled off a key 4-0 surge to open the second period to gain the upper hand.

  • Bruins off to 2-0 start in Comporium tourney

    The Lancaster Bruins pushed their Comporium Invitational Preseason prep baseball tournament record to 2-0 with a 9-4 win over Lewisville, the No. 5 team in the Class A preseason baseball poll, on Monday night.
    Jamias Shropshire sparked a 15-hit Bruins’ attack with four hits, one RBI, scored two runs and had a stolen base.
    Darius Robinson drilled three hits, drove in a run and scored two runs.
    C.J. Brown supplied two hits, including a two-run homer, and drove in three runs. Byron Haigler had two hits, including a two-run homer, and a stolen base.

  • Lady Raiders end Lady Vols’ drive

    KERSHAW – The Keenan Lady Raiders came to play at Andrew Jackson in the third round of the Class AA Upper State girls basketball playoffs on Tuesday night.
    The Lady Raiders used a strong third period to take control of the game on the way to the 57-40 win over the Andrew Jackson Lady Volunteer.
    The first quarter was low scoring with both teams trying to get into an offensive rhythm, but Keenan did lead 11-6 by the end of the opening period.
    The Lady Raiders turned it up in the second quarter to take a 26-16 halftime edge.

  • Comporium Preseason tourney opens play Saturday at AJ field

    Buford will be seeking to defend its title as the sixth annual Comporium Preseason Invitational opens at Andrew Jackson High School on Saturday.
    The tournament features all four county high school baseball teams.
    The BHS Jackets, who edged Class AAA foe South Pointe High School of Rock Hill, 3-2, last March for the title on Brady Horton’s sixth inning RBI-single to snap a 2-all draw, will open play as they face Central of Pageland at 10 a.m.
    Indian Land will battle 2015 runner-up South Pointe at 12:30 p.m, in game two at the AJ field.

  • Keenan knocks out AJ

    KERSHAW – In a game to the wire, the Keenan Raiders’ late run kept them in stride to net a second straight Class AA boys basketball state championship.
    Top-ranked Keenan, in a hardwood battle with game Andrew Jackson, used a pivotal 5-0 flurry in the final 1:01 to take a tough 52-45 win over the Vols and earn a bid to the Class AA Upper State championship game at Bon Secours Wellness Arena in Greenville on Saturday.
