    Here it is – the big week. That would be Thanksgiving.

    Nope, that’s already over as in leftovers, such as endless turkey sandwiches to go with turkey hash and turkey soup.

    How about rivalry week? Well, try again.

    C’mon man, it’s the final week of The Lancaster News’ Pigskin Picks.

    The winner gets the fabled trip to the luxurious Taxahaw Inn complete with a classy victor’s meal of sardines, stand-up weenies, crackers and a case of R.C. Colas.

  • Bruins, Volunteers post tourney wins


    The Lancaster Bruins rallied in the second half to take a 61-49 win over Chapin to open play in the Lake Murray Tip-off Classic at Lexington High School on Monday, Nov. 25, 2013.

    LHS senior guard Duece Dunlap paced the Bruins with 31 points, including six treys, in the Bruins’ victory over the Eagles.

  • BHS eighth in state field


    Buford didn’t bring home any coveted medals for the Class AA state competition, but Jackets cheer coach Julie Thompson was still proud of her team.

    The Jackets cheer team placed eighth in the 16-team field at the Colonial Life Arena on the University of South Carolina campus on Saturday, Nov. 23.

  • AJ’s Rowell to play at Montreat

    KERSHAW – When Andrew Jackson High School softball standout Lauren Rowell recently visited Montreat College in Montreat, N.C., she had a strong inkling she would be returning.
    “I had a great visit there,” Rowell said. “I love the campus and I had a chance to practice with the softball team. When I did, they welcomed me and it seemed they wanted me to be a part of their team.”

    KERSHAW – Andrew Jackson High School senior volleyball star Haley Faulkenberry will cap her high school volleyball career as one of the state’s elite among ace senior players.

    There’s plenty to cheer about at Buford and Andrew Jackson high schools this week.

    Competition cheer squads from both schools will be competing in the Class AA state championship competition at the Colonial Life Arena in Columbia on Saturday, Nov. 23.

    PAGELAND – Central rolled up 417 rushing yards and eliminated Andrew Jackson, 38-21 in the second round of the Class AA Upper State Division II playoffs in Pageland on Friday, Nov. 15.

    Lancaster High School basketball standout Kyia Hough is going up to take her game to the next level.

    Hough, a 5-5 guard, is heading to the North Carolina mountains to play at Western Carolina University in Cullowhee, N.C.
