    Sumter District 2 Memorial Stadium is getting a new name with a familiar ring.

    The stadium, built in the 1980s, is now known as Donald L. Crolley Memorial Stadium.

    A trio of county teams will launch their 2011 prep football scrimmage schedules today.

    Lancaster, after returning from preseason camp at Camp Bob Cooper in Summerton, will travel to Chesterfield to face the Class A Rams and Class AA Lee Central Stallions at 6 p.m.

    County high school football practice is in full swing as the preseason camps, in preparation for the 2011 season, are open with plenty of activity.

  • LHS's Sylvia set for Clash on Saturday

    Lancaster High School soccer coach Bo Sylvia will be among the Carolinas prep soccer elite this weekend.

    Sylvia, who guides the Bruins’ boys and girls soccer programs, is a coach in the fifth annual Clash of the Carolinas boys all-star match on Saturday at Daniel Island’s Blackbaud Stadium, home of the Charleston Battery.

    Eight coaches, including three with Lancaster County connections, will be inducted into the S.C. Athletic Coaches Association Hall of Fame at the SCACA’s 19th annual awards banquet on July 24 at the Carolina First Center in Greenville.

    Class AA Upper State runner-up Buford finished third in the final Class AA state high school softball poll released following the state championship tournament.

    The eighth annual Founders Federal Kickoff Classic will have a new team with a familiar coach for the  2011 prep football scrimmage set for Aug. 19 at Andrew Jackson’s Volunteer Stadium.

  • Juniors win, go to 3-0 on the season

    The Lancaster American Legion Post 31 junior team capped its first week with a third straight win at Eggleton Field on Thursday night.

    The P-31 juniors, with their third straight 10-run win, rolled to an 11-1 win over Union Post 22.

    Jordan Brock, who had a no-hitter through 3.2 innings, hurled four frames to post his second win of the week. Brock scored a run to boost the winners.

    Kholby Pate went two-thirds of an inning and yielded a run, hit and two walks. He whiffed one. Chandler Neal hurled a third of an inning.
