Buford High School head football coach Mike Wells, a S.C. Shrine Bowl assistant, said it’s been a busy week preparing for the 76th annual all-star football game at Gibbs Stadium on the Wofford College campus in Spartanburg. Kickoff Saturday is at 1 p.m.
Buford’s late flurry wasn’t enough as the Jackets dropped a 41-39 loss to Class AAA Hartsville at the BHS gym on Thursday, Dec. 6.
BHS closed the match with three straight wins, but it wasn’t enough to earn the comeback victory over the Red Foxes.
“It was an even match and they just had a few more points than we did,” Buford High coach John Mahaffey said. “I was proud of our effort and our senior leadership has been outstanding from the start.”
Buford swept a non-region twin bill from visiting McBee on Friday, Dec. 7.
The Jackets posted a 53-39 win after the Lady Jackets edged the Lady Panthers, 44-43.
In the boys game, Buford, 2-3, built an early lead and stayed in control for the 14-point win over the Panthers.
The Jackets opened up a 13-10 lead after one period and used a 17-11 spurt in the second quarter to forge a 30-21 halftime spread.
BHS built a 41-29 lead after three before taking the victory.
