    Buford High School’s Meet the Jackets featured a host of winners, including the annual cow patty bingo.

    Rhonda Ellis won the big prize, taking $500.

    CHESTER – Lancaster made its share of big plays on both sides of the ball to post a 7-6 win over Class AAAA foe Rock Hill High School in the Chester County High School Jamboree at Chester High School on Friday, Aug. 15.

    The biggest play of the night for the Bruins came on LHS’s third possession after Rock Hill had snapped a scoreless draw for a touchdown and a 6-0 lead.

    CAMDEN – Andrew Jackson spotted Lee Central 13 quick first-quarter points before falling 19-12 in the 39th annual Camden Shrine Club Football Jamboree at  Zemp Stadium in Camden.

    The scrappy Volunteers drove to the Stallions nine-yard line before dropping three potential game-winning touchdowns with a little over three minutes left in the second and final quarter.

  • Mayer pleased with Warriors’ effort in home scrimmage

    Indian Land High football coach Mike Mayer said the Warriors continue to make strides in their preseason play.

    Mayer said he was encouraged by the Warriors’ effort in their third scrimmage at the IL Reservation on Thursday, Aug. 14 when IL faced Airport High.

    “I was very pleased,” he said. “I felt our defense played extremely well. Our enthusiasm and intensity were great.”

  • AJ’s Sowell signs to play at Erskine

     

    KERSHAW – Andrew Jackson High School senior guard Dareisha Sowell returned to her prep alma mater for one final shining moment Friday, Aug. 8.

    Sowell, a five-year starter for the Lady Volunteers, was back in Big Orange Country to secure her future, signing with Erskine College to play basketball for the Flying Fleet.

    Reviews were mixed for two high school head football coaches following the first scrimmages of the season for teams Friday, Aug. 8.

    Indian Land High coach Mike Mayer said he was pleased with the Warriors’ overall effort in a rain-shortened 90-minute session at C.A. Johnson High School in Columbia.
