  • Warriors’ defense delivers 14-6 win

    COLUMBIA – The Indian Land Warriors were well rested, having the week off, coming into their Thursday night Region IV-AAA game against the Columbia High School Capitals at Memorial Stadium.

    The Warriors would need every bit of it, particularly the defense, in ILHS’s hard-fought 14-6 win over the Capitals.

    ILHS, 2-6, 1-2, snapped a four-game losing skid with the win over CHS.

  • Lady Jackets region volleyball champs

    KERSHAW – The Buford High School Lady Jackets’ volleyball team, for the second time in three seasons, is the queen of the Region IV-AA court.

    Buford, in a tough, tense tie-breaker match for the region volleyball title at Andrew Jackson High School on Thursday, defeated defending Region IV-AA volleyball champion North Central High School, 3-2.

  • Rams charge by Vols, 47-15

     

    CHESTERFIELD – The Andrew Jackson Volunteers’ running game came directly into the passing game of the Chesterfield Rams, and the Vols came up short in a 47-15 road loss.

    The fast-starting Rams, ranked 10th in the latest Class AA state football poll, grabbed the lead early and never yielded on the way to the 32-point Region IV-AA win. The game was closest at the end of the first quarter when the Vols trailed 9-8.

  • Buford holds off Knights for Senior Night win

     

    BUFORD – Buford held off a hard-charging North Central Knights team that took the Yellow Jackets to the wire Friday night at Buford Stadium.

    Buford recovered a clutch onside kick with 1:14 left to seal the 41-36 win for the Jackets’ sixth victory of the season on BHS Senior Night.

    The Knights outscored 11th-ranked Buford 24-13 in the second half behind the passing of quarterback Bubba Williamson. Williamson threw four TD passes in the final half, but ran out of time.

  • Talented Stallions dash by Bruins

     

    ROCK HILL – The Lancaster Battlin’ Bruins, living up to their nickname as much as anytime on the 2017 football season, gave it a good shot, but top-rated South Pointe had too much firepower in a 45-10 win on Friday night.

    The Stallions, ranked No. 5 nationally with an 8-0, 3-0 mark, celebrated their homecoming win later than expected due to the Bruins’ game effort.

    SPHS, up 31-10 and in control, sealed the game with two quick touchdowns in the final period.

  • McKittrick double winner in Tri-County awards

    Andrew Jackson High School senior lineman Dalton McKittrick was a double winner at the weekly meeting of the Tri-County Football Coaches Association meeting on Tuesday at the Towne Tavern in Fort Mill.

    McKittrick was honored twice in the Class A-AA-AAA awards.

    McKittrick was named the offensive lineman of the week with a 91 percent grade, four pancake blocks and zero sacks allowed in the Vols’ 48-0 win over Great Falls.

  • Fall Sports Roundup: Buford Lady Jackets down AJ

    The Buford Lady Jackets rebounded from an opening game loss to notch three straight wins in defeating county and Region IV-AA rival Andrew Jackson for the second time in region volleyball play this season.

    Buford, 14-1, 11-1 in region play, used the 3-1 win over AJ to force a special tie-breaker match at AJ on Thursday when BHS faced North Central for the region title.

    The Lady Jackets and Lady Knights split during regular-season region play this season.
