    The Lancaster Bruins upped their record to 2-3 with a 27-24 road win over the Lugoff-Elgin Demons on Friday night.

  • Bruins rally, net region win

    The Lancaster Bruins got off the snide in a big way Tuesday night at home.

    The LHS boys, who went winless in region play last season and had not posted a region win in 15 games dating back to a 58-52 region road win over Union County on Feb. 5, 2016, ended the skein in its game with Richland Northeast at home on Tuesday.

    The Bruins, with a fourth-quarter surge, finished strong for a 52-48 win over Richland Northeast.

  • Jackets finish strong for split

    BUFORD – Buford and rival Andrew Jackson were locked in a tight hardwood battle, but then Jackets ignited in an impressive finish for a 53-40 basketball win over the Volunteers at BHS on Tuesday night.

    The Jackets’ 13-point win gave Buford a split of the varsity twin bill in the first of two hoops meetings on the 2017-18 Region IV-AA basketball season.

    The Lady Vols, on the other hand, held off the surging Lady Jackets for a tough 45-42 win over the Buford girls.

  • Warriors win for split with Caps

    INDIAN LAND – The Warriors made it two straight with a needed win Friday night in the ILHS gym.

    The 6-9 Warriors evened their Region IV-AAA record at 1-1 with a 64-49 win over Columbia High School.

    The ILHS boys’ 15-point win gave the Warriors a split after the Lady Warriors dropped a 53-21 loss in the varsity opener.

    In the nightcap, the ILHS boys took control in the third period to spark their win over the Capitals.

    The Buford Lady Jackets continued their strong play, winning their fifth straight, third consecutive in Region IV-AA hoops play, with a 57-24 win over Central of Pageland at BHS on Friday night.

    The Lady Jackets’ 33-point win gave Buford a split of the region twin bill.

    The Central boys posted a 55-50 win over the Jackets in the nightcap.

    Buford, in the opener, blistered the Lady Eagles to up their region mark to 3-2.

  • Red Hawks top Bruins

    The Westwood Red Hawks soared twice in a Region III-AAAA hoops visit to the Lancaster High School gym on Friday night.

    WHS rolled to a pair of wins over the Bruins, who were in the region home opener.

    The Red Hawks prevailed, taking a 77-36 win in the girls game and a 49-34 victory in boys contest.

    Lancaster, in the nightcap, stayed within striking distance, but couldn’t solve Westwood in the 15-point loss.

    The Bruins, 6-6, 0-3, closed the gap to 36-29 with 4:05 to play, but the Red Hawks finished on a 13-5 charge to cap the win.

  • Lady Volunteers roll in split

    KERSHAW – The Andrew Jackson Volunteers split games with a win and a loss against the Lee Central Stallions of Bishopville at AJ High on Friday night.

    The Lady Vols, in impressive fashion, handily defeated the Lady Stallions, 60-32. The Vols fell to the Stallion’s boys 61-41.

  • Stingers sign IL’s Gueldner

    INDIAN LAND – The start of the 2018 Indian Land High School baseball season is more than a month away, but Warriors’ senior shortstop Daniel Gueldner knows his academic and diamond future.
    Gueldner, a four-year varsity starter for the ILHS baseball team, has signed to play baseball at Florence-Darlington Technical College.
    “I love the entire coaching staff and the way they handled the whole situation,” Gueldner said. “On my visit, I could easily tell they were a program that always wanted to win.
