  • Terry leads LJGA play in Small tourney
    Matthew Terry shot an even par 144 (73-71) to capture the boys 15-18 win in the Roy Small Junior Championship and the Lancaster chapter of the S.C. Junior Golf Association age division title. Terry, a Central High School of Pageland golfer, also earned the chapter’s Player of the Year Award.

  • Dixie Boys 13 all-stars finish as state runners-up
    The Lancaster Dixie Boys 13 baseball all-stars finished as the state runner-up in the tournament at Bluffton on Wednesday, July 25. Sumter, which received a bye, rolled to a 16-0 win over the Lancaster 13s in the state title game.

  • Dixie Pre-Majors stars fifth in Series field
    The Lancaster Dixie Pre-Majors baseball all-stars, the S.C. state champions, produced a fifth-place finish in the 12-team World Series in Guntersville, Ala. Georgia, which handed Lancaster its two losses in the double-elimination tournament, ended the local stars’ Series title hopes with an 11-3 win Monday night.

  • P-31 wins, remains alive
    Lancaster Post 31 remained alive in the American Legion baseball state tournament, taking a 5-1 win over Union Post 22 Sunday, July 29. Tripp Rollings, the winning Lancaster hurler, combined with Kendall Knight to hurl a four-hitter. Rollings, in six frames, allowed three hits and struck out six. He walked four. Knight, in three innings, allowed a hit and fanned two. Brien Clyburn led the Lancaster offense with two hits. Bobby Delly had a hit and scored three runs. Jonah Crenshaw had a hit, RBI and scored twice. Tyler Rodgers supplied a hit and drove in a run.

  • Dixie Pre-Majors stars rebound, win
    The Lancaster Dixie Pre-Majors all-stars, the South Carolina state champion, rebounded to stay alive in the Dixie Pre-Majors World Series in Guntersville, Ala., on Sunday. Lancaster, down 2-1, rallied for two runs in the seventh and a 3-2 win over Alabama. Grayson Snipes’ sacrifice fly to deep center field scored Jason Dobbins with what proved to be the winning run. Earlier in the inning, Dobbins doubled home Brayden Carnes to tie the game. Carnes was running for Jordan Brock, who reached on a hit.

  • Getting better with age
    Sun City Carolina Lakes swimmer Fred Ruppenthal is just getting better with age. The 78-year-old won six gold medals in the Beaufort County Senior Games in Bluffton on Nov. 1, 2011, two of them in events he doesn’t usually swim in. “They are beautiful medals, with a torch on the front,” he said. Ruppenthal, who has dominated the state’s senior swimming scene since he moved here in 2007, won four freestyle events and two backstroke events. Here are his results:

  • Goose Creek tops Post 31, 4-1
    Lancaster Post 31 fell in its opening game of the American Legion state baseball tournament, dropping a 4-1 loss to Goose Creek at Greenwood's Nave Stadium on Saturday morning. Lancaster, 21-9, snapped a scoreless draw in the sixth when Tripp Rollings’ RBI-hit scored Bobby Delly who had singled and stole second. Goose Creek came back to score two unearned runs in the sixth and a pair in the eighth to take the three-run win.
