  • Dixie Boys 14 stars roll
      The Lancaster Dixie Boys 14 all-stars stayed unbeaten in the state tournament in Aiken, topping McLeod Park of Florence, 13-8 Monday, July 22. Lancaster, 3-0 in the field, tallied four runs in the top of the seventh, with Spencer Funderburk lacing a two-run double to highlight a key four-run frame.
  • Upstate teams halt P-31
      Upper State teams foiled the Lancaster Post 31 teams’ playoff baseball hopes. The Greenville Generals swept the Lancaster P-31 senior team with a 9-6 win Friday, July 19 at Eggleton Field.
  • LGC pin flags to fly in Mitchell's memory
      Quiet is the norm on the golf course, especially around greens, but this occasion was different. The morning of Wednesday, July 17, fellow golfers and friends of the late Eddie Mitchell, who died June 14, took time out for a special tribute.
  • Two first-time winners in LJGA play at Chester
      The Lancaster chapter of the S.C. Junior Golf Association opened the second half of its 2013 season July 8 with a visit to the Chester Golf Club where two juniors posted their first wins of the campaign. Marshall Deese, in the boys 6-7 age group, shot a 25 over five holes for his first win this season.
  • Aquatics produce top efforts
     The 10th annual Aquatics capped the summer recreation swim season with outstanding performances during the meet at the Kershaw pool July 9-10. The meet featured the Lancaster Tigers, Lancaster Makos, Camden Dolphins, Chester Waves and host Kershaw Stingrays.
  • Hilton Head captures Dixie Majors state championship
      Hilton Head, forced to a final game, rebounded with a 17-4 win over Irmo to capture the Dixie Majors state baseball championship at Lancaster High School’s Doomsday Corner on Wednesday, July 17.
  • P-31 falls to Greenville
        The Lancaster Post 31 Legion team dropped a  7-2 loss to the Greenville Generals in the opening game of second round postseason play Wednesday, July 17 at Eggleton Field.
  • Post 31 sweeps Dalzell Shaw
    Ernie Rowell For The Lancaster News The American Lancaster Post 31 senior team defeated Dalzell Shaw Post 175, 8-3, Sunday, July 14, at Harvey Eggleton Field. With the win, Post 31 advances to the second round of the playoffs. Post 31 jumped out to an early 4-0 lead. Lancaster scored four more runs late to put it away. Post 31 was lead by Dustin Eddins with three hits. Wyatt Duncan and  Trey Payne had two-run hits.

  • Good advice from a pro
    The 2013 Dixie Majors State Baseball Tournament is underway in Lancaster this week. Eight teams from across the state are playing in the double elimination tournament that began Saturday, July 13, at Doomsday Corner. The winner of the tournament, which wraps up today, July 17, will advance to the Dixie Majors World Series in North Charleston later this month.   This is the second year in a row that Lancaster has been the host city. Lynn James, state director of Dixie Majors Baseball, is pleased that the tournament is back in Lancaster.
