USCL women post first win at new field

The University of South Carolina Lancaster women’s soccer team posted a historic win Sunday, Aug. 26. The Lady Lancers defeated the NJCAA Region X foe Wake Tech Lady Eagles, 5-4 in overtime for the first win at the new USCL soccer field.

Dirt Diamonds shine in play

The Dirt Diamonds travel softball team went 5-0 and captured the CSA 14U national championship Aug. 11-12 in Florence. The Diamonds, in pool play, defeated the Sumter Shockers 5-4 (win Haley Vincent) and Carolina Reign 8-0 (win Haley Vincent).

Banks’ late charge nets title

Robert Howey rhowey@thelancasternews.com Taylor Banks called his two-time defense of the Lancaster Golf Club championship “a dogfight,” and fittingly so because in the end he’s still the links’ top dog. Banks, the former Buford High School and University of South Carolina Lancaster star golfer, who is now at Francis Marion University in Florence, shot a six under 138 (69-69) to edge ever-battling Dalton Bradley by a shot to capture his third straight LGC crown.

Terry leads LJGA play in Small tourney

Matthew Terry shot an even par 144 (73-71) to capture the boys 15-18 win in the Roy Small Junior Championship and the Lancaster chapter of the S.C. Junior Golf Association age division title. Terry, a Central High School of Pageland golfer, also earned the chapter’s Player of the Year Award.
