Good golf for a good cause were the highlights in the third annual A.R. Rucker Middle School BAC (Buddies Against Cancer) captain’s choice golf tournament on Saturday afternoon at the Lancaster Golf Club.
The event was originally set for March 26, but was postponed due to a rainout.
The University of South Carolina at Lancaster Lancers softball team notched a pair of home wins over USC-Salkehatchie on Saturday.
The Lancers captured the opener in dramatic fashion, posting a 7-5 win and then took a 5-0 win in the nightcap.
Spartanburg Methodist snapped a 4-all tie with a run in the seventh inning and added three in the eighth for an 8-4 baseball win over the University of South Carolina at Lancaster at Chester High School on Wednesday afternoon.
The Palmetto Lightning earned a bid to the AAU National Tournament in Clarksville, Tenn., winning the Super Regional basketball tournament in Greenville on March 25-27.
The Lightning took the tournament championship with a 57-16 win over the Carolina Cougars.
The USCL Lancer’s softball team opens its 2011 home schedule with four games with Florence-Darlington Tech this weekend.
The Lancers softball team meets the Lady Stingers today at 1 p.m. at the Lancaster High School softball field. Game two is set for 3 p.m. A twin bill is also set for Saturday.
The USCL Lancers will seek to rebound this weekend as they host USC-Salkehatchie on Saturday and Sunday at the Lancaster High baseball field.
USCL, 12-15, 0-8, dropped four games to USC-Sumter last weekend at the LHS field.
The Jones’ siblings capped the indoor track season, gaining national honors with a combined effort reaping 11 medals as they competed as unattached athletes at AAU Southern Indoor National Championship hosted by East Tennessee State University in Johnson City, Tenn., on March 4-5.
The 37th annual Universal Martial Arts Championships, held March 12 at the Springdale Recreation Center, continued in the tradition of the tournament.
