    FORT LAWN – University of South Carolina Gamecocks’ football fans have not only seen a transformation on the field, but they can expect to see a new-look at the USC football home.

    Great weather conditions and close competition made for a special day for the Matt Blackwell Foundation last Saturday afternoon. The field included 23 four-player teams who participated in the 11th annual captain’s choice golf tournament held at the Lancaster Golf Club.
  • Lancers take 2 of 3 from Guilford Tech
    The University of South Carolina Lancaster Lancers capped their regular-season baseball schedule with two Region X wins over Guilford Tech. The Lancers were slated to play four games, but rain washed out the finale Sunday afternoon at the Lancaster High School baseball field.
  • Clutch teamwork keys foursome to Partners for Youth golf tourney win
    Robert Howey rhowey@thelancasternews.com Teamwork proved to be a key factor for the winning team in the 21st annual Partners for Youth golf tournament at the Lancaster Golf Club on Friday afternoon. The winning foursome teamed for a 51, which forced a card playoff and an eagle on the third playoff hole, No. 5, gave it the win. “It was all a team effort,” said Greg Gates of the winning team sponsored by McKittrick Timber. “We all made some key putts and we all had some key drives.”
  • Lancers capture one of four wins
    For the third straight series, the University of South Carolina Lancaster baseball team posted a win to dodge a Region X sweep. The Lancers, 30-15, 12-12, won the Sunday opener at the Lancaster High School baseball field where they took a 4-2 win over Pitt Community College.

    It’s April 8, which this year, is Easter. April 8, without being Easter, is still a special date for me. In baseball lore, you might recall that’s the date Hank Aaron hit his historic home run in Atlanta-Fulton County Stadium to pass Babe Ruth. A few seasons before the old Braves’ stadium closed, our church, First Presbyterian, took a bus trip to see the Braves play the Phillies. Do you remember the old outfield sign in left center field where Aaron’s 715th home run sailed out of the park and into history?
