  • More Crate Sportsman cars expected Saturday
    Michael Knight For The Lancaster News Lancaster Motor Speedway hosts seven exciting racing divisions Saturday night at the half-mile oval. LMS officials expect to see a few more Crate Sportsman cars as the Crate Sportsman drivers will be preparing for the Kenny Helms Memorial race. The Crate Sportsman division has seen some great racing this season, with a division rivalry brewing  between Kenny Ramsey and Timbo Mangum.

  • Tourney in memory of Craig continues to grow
    Staff Reports The Nucor Steel Berkeley golf tournament has hit its second decade and is going as strong as ever. The 11th annual tournament, held in memory of Lancaster native Jamie Craig, was played earlier this spring and drew its largest field of golfers, 335 participants. The 2010 tournament had 315 golfers. “This tournament continues to get larger,” said Buffy Fortner, a Nucor Steel cost accountant who has worked with the event for 10 years, including the last nine as chairman.

  • Polk paces CPTC in Simpsonville meet
    Staff Reports The Columbus Parker Track Club captured 69 medals and 33 ribbons in a youth meet held in Simpsonville. Rekia Polk, in the 10-under girls age group, earned three gold medals to pace the CPTC. The team notched 19 gold medals, 30 silver and 20 bronze medals. The CPTC, a Lancaster area youth track team, also earned   13 fourth-place ribbons, nine fifth-place ribbons and 11 sixth-place ribbons at the meet. 10-under girls

  • LCPRC salutes baseball champs
    This year the Lancaster County Parks and Recreation Commission Little League baseball program, sanctioned through Little League, crowned three regular-season champions. The Coach Pitch league, for 7-8-year-olds, had eight teams throughout the county. All Hours Plumbing from the Indian Land area took the regular season title.

    The Lancaster Post 31 junior team continued its winning ways with a 6-0 League V Legion baseball win over Rock Hill Post 34 on Thursday night. The shutout road win pushed the juniors record to 5-0 on the season.

  • USCL tennis nets top 25 ranking
    The Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) announced the final rankings for the NJCAA 2011 season and the USC Lancaster Lancers finished No. 24th in the country. This is the school’s first national ranking and it comes on the heels of the team’s trip to the national championship at Collin College in Plano, Texas.
