  • Dixie Youth AA stars win district title
    Staff Reports The Lancaster Dixie Baseball AA all-stars wrapped up the District II championship and a bid to the state tournament with a 7-0 win over tournament host Chester on Thursday night. The Lancaster AA stars will open play in the state tournament at Lexington on July 7 at 10 a.m. The Lancaster stars, who took the district tournament title in three games, were led by Landon Deese who drilled a triple and scored a run in the championship game. Austin Kennington and Jarrett Laney each laced a double. J.R. Cunningham scored two runs.

    The Lancaster Dixie Baseball AA all-stars, ages 7-8, remained unbeaten in district tournament play with a 7-3 win over host Chester on Wednesday night. The Lancaster stars returned to Chester on Thursday, seeking a win to wrap up the district title and a bid to the state tournament.

  • Post 31 pounds Chester
    The Lancaster Post 31 senior team bounced back in a big way Tuesday night at home. The P-31 seniors, coming off a 5-2 road loss to York Post 66 on Monday night, rebounded with a 20-2 rout of Chester Post 27.

          The Lancaster Makos topped the Lancaster Tigers, 274-272 in a close meet at the Lancaster County pool on Tuesday afternoon.
  • Crawford launches run for Olympics
    Shawn Crawford’s bid for a 2012 Summer Olympics berth hits full stride today at the U.S. Olympic Trials at the University of Oregon in Eugene, Ore. Crawford, the Van Wyck native and former Indian Land High  star athlete, will run in the 200-meter qualifying race today at 4:45 p.m.
  • York rallies to edge P-31
    York ignited for five runs in the sixth inning on the way to a 5-2 win over Lancaster Post 31 in American Legion baseball League V play Monday. York trailed 1-0 to the bottom of the sixth when Post 66, bolstered by a three-run home run, erupted for five runs to take a 5-1 lead on the way to the three-run win.
  • American League stars seek to rebound in Little League tourney
          The Lancaster American League all-stars returned to the Springdale Park diamond Tuesday night to seek to stay alive in the Little League Baseball district tournament.
  • Hunter education course set for July 13 in Van Wyck
    The Lancaster Soil and Water Conservation District, the S.C. Department of Natural Resources and Clemson Extension 4-H has planned a hunter’s education class on Friday, July 13 from 9 a.m. To 3 p.m. at the Van Wyck Community Building. The class will be taught by the S.C. Department of Natural Resources for people age 12 and up.
