  • Big Thursday triumph
    Talk about streaks in the Palmetto State rivalry. The team of University of South Carolina Gamecocks and USC Lancaster Lancers golfers have a solid run going in the 12th annual Big Thursday Scholarship golf tournament. The Lancers and Gamecocks teamed for a solid 15.5-7.5 win over the Clemson University golfers Thursday, Nov. 21, at the Lancaster Golf Club. The golf tournament is part of the Big Thursday Scholarship Inc.’s annual dinner fundraiser at the golf club’s Fairway Room.
  • Pee Wee all-star soccer tournament set
    The annual Lancaster County Parks and Recreation Pee Wee all-star soccer tournament will be held Dec. 2-3 and Dec. 5. The best-of-three tournament opens at the Buford Recreation Center field on Dec. 2. The Dec. 3 match will be played at the Melvin Steele Soccer Complex in Lancaster. If a third match is needed, the site will be determined. The North 8U Pee Wee all-star soccer team is led by coach Faye Zaugg-Garcia.

    Buford turkey shoots each week The annual Buford turkey shoot will be held at 6 p.m. each Friday through Dec. 28 at the Buford Little General Store on Rocky River Road. The next shoot is Nov. 29. Shoots are also held every other Saturday, with the next shoot Nov. 30. The fee is $3 per shot. For details, call Monty Craig at (803) 320-9712.

  • Practice firearm safety during hunting season
    S.C. Department of Natural Resources release This hunting season the S.C. Department of Natural Resources is joining  the National Shooting Sports Foundation to remind hunters that safety remains at the core of America’s hunting traditions. “This is a time of year when a lot of firearms are in use and in transport,” said Lt. Billy Downer with Department of Natural Resources’ hunter/boater education program.
  • Moriah hoops league set to tip off play Dec. 9
        The 2013 Moriah Youth Basketball league opens play Monday, Dec. 9. Games will be played on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday nights.

      The Lancaster County Parks and Recreation mites stars saw their postseason football hopes end with a tough 6-0 loss to Chester at Lewisville High School on Tuesday, Nov. 19.
  • LCPRC mite football stars roll to win
      The Lancaster County Parks and Recreation Commission mite all-stars football team was mighty in its Central District opener, rolling to a 30-0 win over Tega Cay at Rock Hill’s Hargett Park on Saturday, Nov. 15.
  • Lancaster team prevails in second disc golf victory
      Disc golf action resumed at Elon Park as the Lancaster kids traveled to their second match against Elon Park Elementary’s disc golf club. The format, as in the first match at the North Elementary course, featured nine holes of individual stroke play followed by a round of best-shot pairs competition.
  • Former AJ star Shropshire joins Coffeyville HOF
      When Darrell Shropshire left Coffeyville Junior College 11 years ago, he was regarded as one of the nation’s top junior college defensive lineman. When Shropshire, the former Andrew Jackson High School football star, returned Saturday, Oct. 26, he was hailed as one of the Red Raven’s all-time greats.
