The Lancaster Dixie Boys Blue 13-year-old all-star baseball team was hoping for a deeper run in the state tournament, but fell short in its diamond quest at Citizens Park in Aiken.
Sumter, which went on to capture the state tournament and a bid in the Dixie Boys 13s World Series in Seneca, derailed the Lancaster Dixie Boys Blue team’s hopes in a 5-3 win earlier this week.
Lancaster, which went 1-2 in the tournament, held a 3-1 lead to the fifth inning when Sumter scored four unearned runs to take the lead.

For the first time since joining the Southeastern Conference in 1992, the South Carolina Gamecocks are the preseason favorite to win the Eastern Division, according to a poll of media members attending the SEC Media Days in Birmingham.
The defending Eastern Division Champion Gamecocks received 931 points, outdistancing Georgia (794) and Florida (731) for the top spot in the East.
Carolina received 114 first-place votes, compared to 38 for Georgia and 12 for Florida.
