  • State antler records down slightly this year
    from S.C. Department of Natural Resources The most recent round of white-tailed deer antler measuring conducted by the S.C. Department of Natural Resources (DNR) revealed more than 200 new records, including one Boone and Crockett Club qualifier. Each spring, DNR Wildlife Section personnel make a concerted effort to measure deer racks throughout the state, with a major session during the Palmetto Sportsmen’s Classic in Columbia.

    LHS Bruins set fall sports practices Lancaster High School athletics director Mark Strickland announced starting practice dates for all Bruins’ fall sports. LHS varsity, junior varsity and freshman football begins at 9 a.m. today, Aug. 1. Cross country opens at 4 p.m. today, Aug. 1. Volleyball for varsity and junior varsity players opens at 10 a.m. Monday, Aug. 4. Swim team practice begins at 5:30 p.m. Monday, Aug. 4. Girls tennis starts at 9 a.m. Monday, Aug. 4.
  • Dixie Boys 13 stars fall in state tourney play
      Lancaster Dixie Baseball’s final 2014 all-star  team in postseason play was eliminated with a tough 5-4 loss on Wednesday, July 23 when the Lancaster Dixie Boys 13 all-stars fell to Lexington American.
  • Lancaster County Debs U18 stars bidding for Series title
      The Lancaster County American Debs U18 all-stars, who captured the state championship, are bidding to add some more softball hardware.
  • Juniors focused on Small Championship
     Titles and all-star selections will be at stake Monday, July 28 and Tuesday, July 29 when the annual Roy Small Junior Championship tournament is played at the Lancaster Golf Club. The Small Championship caps the Lancaster chapter of the S.C. Junior Golf Association’s 2014 tournament schedule at the LGC.
  • Team’s 55 tops PCC field
      A stellar start sparked the winning team in the eighth annual Pregnancy Care Center golf tournament at the Lancaster Golf Club on Friday, July 25. The winning foursome of Roger Hayes, Danny Reynolds, Dan Edwards and Bryan Turner teamed for a 17-under 55 to top the 16-team field.
  • AA stars third in Series
      The Lancaster Dixie Baseball AA all-stars earned a third-place finish in the first-ever Dixie Youth AA World Series. The Lancaster stars, who earned the Series bid as the S.C. state champion, finished 5-3 in the tournament at Texarkana, Ark.
  • Juniors rebound to top Aiken, 7-5
      The Lancaster Post 31 junior Legion baseball team has had a penchant for the comeback win this season and the P-31 squad repeated the feat Tuesday afternoon, July 22 in the state tournament in Florence.
  • AA stars open strong in Series
     Staff Reports The Lancaster Dixie Baseball AA machine pitch all-stars are making an early splash in the AA World Series pool B play at Texarkana, Ark. The Lancaster AA stars, the South Carolina champion, notched two wins in Pool B play on Friday, July 18. Lancaster AA stars, ages 7-8, opened play with a 6-0 win over tournament host Texarkana and followed with an exciting 8-7 comeback win over McCalla, Ala.
  • Sowell, Hinkle lead junior golfers play in Kershaw
     Staff Reports Logan Sowell, the Andrew Jackson High School star golfer, continued his stellar play as the Lancaster chapter of the SC Junior Golf Association opened the second half of its 2014 tournament season. Sowell, in the boys 15-18 age division, shot a sizzling three-under 69 at the Kershaw Golf Club. Sowell’s 69 edged Matthew Terry, who shot a solid two-under 70 over 18 holes from the blue tees.
