  • USC bids for more success
      Todd Ellis, the radio voice of USC Gamecocks football, had good news for University of South Carolina fans at the spring meeting of the Lancaster County Gamecock Club on Thursday night, April 3 at the Bradley Building on the University of South Carolina Lancaster campus.
  • A notable day with a true golf champion
          It was the spring of 1969. A beautiful day. I had a couple months to go before getting out of the Navy, after spending eight years in blues and whites. Since October of the previous year, I had been schooled on the rudiments of golf by a Navy buddy who had once been on the University of Houston golf team. 
  • Lancaster County Gamecock Club meeting Thursday
      The Lancaster County Gamecock Club’s spring meeting is Thursday, April 3 in the University of South Carolina Lancaster’s Bradley Building. A shrimp boil will be served at 6 p.m. and the program will follow the meal.
  • Carolina Marlins open title defense
      The Carolina Marlins are in their third season of play in the Community All-Star Baseball League. The Marlins, who went 34-14 last season, captured the 2013 league crown in the league based out of Greenville.
  • Tourney crowns martial arts champs
      One of the year’s biggest stages for the Dojo Organization took place in Lancaster on Saturday, March 8 at the Springdale Recreation Center, as Hanshi James White and Universal Karate Studios hosted its 40th annual martial arts tournament.
  • Trapps knows ups, downs of college hoops
             Ron Trapps, in one season, has experienced the highs and lows of college basketball. Trapps, the former Lancaster High School basketball star, is “going dancing” in his hoops shoes.
  • Kershaw Stingrays swim team registration
    The Kershaw Stingrays swim team will hold its registration for the 2014 season on Monday, March 10 and Thursday, March 13 from 4 to 6 p.m.at the Kershaw Bowling Alley. Swim suits and other items related to the swim season will also be ordered at that time.  For more details, call the Kershaw Recreation Department at (803) 475-2142.    
  • Evans will compete in Down Under golf tourney
      South Middle School eighth grader Baylee Evans, a standout member of the Lancaster High School golf team and an all-star with the Lancaster chapter of the S.C. Junior Golf Association, has been invited to the Down Under Sports International Golf Tournament in Brisbane, Australia.
  • Lancers top Junior Wolves to even mark
      The University of South Carolina Lancaster baseball team snapped a four-game skid in resounding fashion with a 14-2 win over the Newberry College junior varsity on Wednesday, Feb. 19 at the Lancaster High School baseball field.
  • Barr Street High School Foundation to host ‘Glory Road’
      The Barr Street High School Foundation, Inc. will sponsor the movie “Glory Road” on Saturday, March 1 at 1:30 p.m. at the Crown Cinema in Lancaster. The movie “Glory Road” is about the Texas Western Miners basketball team, which captured the 1966 NCAA national championship.
