  • Fun, tight play highlight McMackin tourney
      Kids-like play decided the champion team in the 10th annual Neil McMackin Memorial Scholarship golf tournament at the Lancaster Golf Club on Friday, Sept. 12.
  • Evans shines in Down Under Sports
      Lancaster High School freshman Baylee Evans, a member of the LHS golf team, had an uplifting experience with Down Under Sports earlier this summer. Evans was selected along with other students, ages 14-19 from across the nation, to compete for Team USA.
  • Foursome captures Hyde Park Baptist Sports Ministry golf tournament
      The foursome of Will Ellis, Brett Hicks, Kenny Starnes and Brandon Starnes teamed to win the seventh annual Hyde Park Baptist Church’s Sports Ministry golf tournament Saturday, Aug. 23 at the Kershaw Golf Club. The winning team, which topped an 18-team field, earned $600.
  • Lynx Wrestling sets benefit to aid Holland's final expenses
      Lynx Wrestling Alliance will host a special benefit wrestling event for Barbara Holland’s final expenses on Sunday, Sept. 21 at the Lancaster American Legion Building. Holland, who died Aug. 29, is the mother of pro wrestlers Rex Rumble and Kid Chaos.
  • Harris back to hoops at Allen
     The Allen University basketball program, in hoops terms, garnered a big rebound Friday, Sept. 5 in the Lancaster High School media center. Avery Harris, a former LHS hardwood standout, signed to play at Allen University.
  • Oliver paces LJGA in all-star tourney
      The Lancaster Junior Golf Association all-star golfers produced a strong showing in the annual S.C. Junior Golf Association Thomas D. Todd all-star tournament at the Patriot Golf Club in Ninety Six where the event was held Aug. 23-24.
  • CPTC lauds team for stellar season
       A season of splendid track success was celebrated at the annual Columbus Parker Track Club banquet at the A.R. Rucker Middle School cafeteria on Saturday, Aug. 23. The youth track team, in its 29th season and named for its late coach Columbus “Big Daddy” Parker, captured 167 awards for the 2014 season.
  • Rodgers places third in body building meet
      Seth Rodgers recently placed third in a body building contest and he said all his effort to place was worth it. Rodgers, competing in the Victory in the Valley Body Building competition, finished third in the in the 50-under division.
  • Junior golfers focus on all-star field
      The Lancaster chapter of the S.C. Junior Golf Association posted a strong showing in the 2013 state all-star tournament in Chapin, but Lancaster chapter director Raymon Chisom is optimistic about a better display this year.
  • Hinkle claims club crown
    Robert Howey rhowey@thelancasternews.com Youth was served in a big way Sunday afternoon, Aug. 9 at the Lancaster Golf Club. Lancaster High School freshman golfer Brady Hinkle, 14, would be considered a youngster by age, but he was the man of the hour at the LGC. Hinkle notched a stellar three-under 141 (72-69) to take the LGC championship on an overcast day. Hinkle, a zero handicap golfer, posted a nine-shot victory over defending club champion Mike “Red Man” Kennington, who finished with a six-over 150 (72-78).
