Bishop England boys’ soccer coach Ed Khouri was feeling good.

His Bishops had just prevailed in an emotional 4-3 sudden-death win over Class AA Upstate upstart Indian Land.

Buford blanks Griffins, faces...

Buford opened the Class AA Upper State soccer playoffs with a 4-0 win over Fairfield Central.
The 13-4 Jackets, the No. 5 seed in the Upstate, held a 2-0 lead at the half.
Junior Andrew “Red” Ellis scored first in the 15th minute on an assist from senior Trey Starnes. Senior James Shehane scored his first career goal in the 29th minute on an unassisted shot from the edge of the 18-yard box. Keeper Corey Bracey had 3 saves in the first half.

County athletes look to state...

A host of county athletes will be seeking state titles at the state track meets at Lower Richland High School on Friday, May 10 and Saturday, May 11.
Indian Land has several athletes who will be competing for state crowns in the Class AA state meet.
Destiny Todd, who won the 800-meter run in the Class AA Upstate meet, will run in that event and with the 4 x 800 team which includes Imani Jernegan, Morgan Engstrom and Tianah Miller.
Senior James Gregory, who finished fourth in the Class AA Upstate meet, will be running in that event at the state meet.

LSS hosts six divisions of...

Lancaster Super Speedway will host six divisions of racing action Saturday, May 11.
Josh Langley and Marty Spittle will have to start in the rear of the field after winning three straight races in their respected divisions.
Langley will have to start in the rear of the field in a stout Pure Street Division, and Spittle will have to start in the rear of the field in a very competitive Vintage Division.

Buford High School track coach and math teacher Jareth Bailey ran a 19:44 to win the third annual Chalk Walk at BHS on Saturday, May 11.

Does fiction imitate life in...

In the May 10 edition of The Lancaster News, there was a story about a man being arrested for attempted murder one day after another man reported he was attacked with a knife. Officers also charged a man with attempted murder and malicious injury to property.
This type of reporting comes from the necessity to cover local news. It seems there is no end to these incidents, story after story, month after month, rain or shine.

Are we prepared for terrorist...

Like their fellow Americans across the country, South Carolinians were horrified at the recent Boston Marathon bombings, which killed three people and injured dozens of others.
Here at home, our heartfelt prayers went out to the victims and their families as a difficult question hangs over our state. It’s a question none of us wants to imagine, but we must: What if it happened here?

Future generations need a...

I would like to respond to Phil Noble’s column, “Nullification – are these guys nuts?” in the April 10 edition. The frustration expressed in Mr. Nobles’ article is understandable, especially if he is not from South Carolina. For those of us, who are descendants of families who have live in the Palmetto state for more than 300 years, view nullification as natural as a squirrel eating Statehouse nuts. Hopefully, this does not apply to the nuts he say are inside the capitol building.
