Lady Bruins blank Cats in region...

The Lancaster High School girls soccer team highlighted LHS senior night with a 2-0 win over Rock Hill at Memorial Stadium on Thursday, May 2.
Lancaster forged a 1-0 halftime lead and added a second goal in the final half to notch a sweep of the Lady Bearcats this spring.
The LHS girls defeated Rock Hill, 3-2 on Tuesday, April 23 at  District Three Stadium.
Reagan Latham scored off an assist from Frances Whitesides for the winning goal in the closing seconds.

Nullification is needed now...

This column is in response to Phil Noble’s column, “Nullification – are these guys nuts?” in the April 5 issue of The Lancaster News.
Null and void, annulment, cancellation, repeal, eradication and do away with are some of the words and terms that explain what nullification means. Nowhere can I find that the word nullification means “nuts.”
But what kind of nuts are you thinking of? Do you mean tree nuts like walnuts? Or the slang symbolism metaphor describing a person who is handicapped with a mental condition?

Buford’s Austin Williams...

Only fragments of memories remain for Austin Williams of the day that changed his life forever.
It was about 12 years ago as Williams, now a graduating senior at Buford High School, was riding his bike on Flat Creek Road (S.C. 903) near his great-grandparent’s house.
Just 6 years old, the kindergartner was unaware of the danger that was approaching.

Bishops edge Warriors for Class...

GILBERT – Bishop England High School freshman Joel Bunting's golden goal was just that.

Bunting's nine-yard shot with 19 seconds left in the first of the two five-minute sudden-death overtime periods gave the Bishops a stunning 4-3 win over Indian Land for the Class AA state soccer championship at Gilbert High School's Leon Price Field on Saturday, May 18.

Langley’s win streak continues...

Pure Street Division driver Josh Langley captured his third win in a row Saturday, May 4 at Lancaster Super Speedway.
Langley was on the front row with Matthew Cauthen. When the green flag dropped, it was Langley, Cauthen, Jesse Carson and Steve Hinson roaring into turn one battling for the lead.
Exiting turn two, the Langley Rocket Ship took command and never looked back for his seventh win this season.

Wellness is essential to living a full and productive life. However, we may have different ideas about what wellness means. Hopefully, one will agree it involves a set of skills and strategies to prevent the onset or shorten the duration of illness and promote recovery and well-being.

Vols golfers cap unbeaten region...

The Andrew Jackson Golf team capped regular-season play with an undefeated region season with wins over Buford and Indian Land at the Lancaster Golf Club on Thursday, May 2.
AJ, 19-4, 17-0, shot a 168, while IL had a 173 and Buford finished with a 175.
Buford High’s Garrett Crenshaw was match medalist with an even par round of 36.
Logan Sowell led AJ with a 37. Dylan Robinson carded a 43 and Caleb Brown and Chandler Norville each had a 44. Tyler Bowers and Emily Cox each had a 46.

South Carolina must address its...

What is the most pressing issue facing South Carolina? Is it attempting to nullify Obamacare? Is it the question of whether to expand Medicaid coverage? Is it putting up legal barricades to block possible federal curbs on gun rights? While my email inbox would seem to indicate so, I believe our No. 1 concern is addressing the dire condition of the state’s roads and bridges.

Lady Warriors top Lady Vols,...

INDIAN LAND – Indian Land forged a 2-0 halftime lead on the way to a 3-0 Class AA Upper State playoff win over county and Region IV-AA foe Andrew Jackson on Wednesday, May 8.
The Lady Warriors, 13-4, received three goals from Shalyn Dougherty who scored in the 21st minute, 26th minute and 44th minute.
Dougherty was assisted by Raquel Addamo, Kayla Groll and Katherine Kilroy.
Indian Land had 18 shot to five for the Lady Vols.
Indian Land’s Isabella Maia, who notched the shutout, had three saves.

Lancers earn district bid as X...

The University of South Carolina Lancaster Lancers have earned a bid to the National Junior College Athletic Association Eastern District baseball tournament.
The Lancers, with a runner-up finish in the Region X tournament in Burlington, N.C., on Wednesday, May 10, reaped the coveted bid.
“Our backs were really to the wall, but we came back fighting and I’m really proud of this team and the character they showed through long games and rain delays.
