Warrants issued for shooting suspect

Warrants have been issued in the hunt for a Lancaster man wanted in connection with the shooting of another man in both his legs Tuesday, June 4. 

Authorities are searching for Markevious Demond Samuel, 21, 1344 Locustwood Ave., after a 43-year-old Lancaster man was rushed to a hospital with shotgun wounds to both legs, said Lancaster Police Department Capt. Scott Grant. 

Thanks to Band for outstanding job at library

Richard Band devoted 35 years to the Lancaster County Library and it’s likely his legacy will be felt for years to come.
Band, 64, retired May 31 after spending nearly half of his life improving and expanding the Lancaster County Library system.
Band’s impact is obvious.
“When I came, we had no branches and were only open one night a week,” Band said. “We had a big old card catalog in the middle of the room with 40,000 cards that took up all the room. There wasn’t a lot of technology.”

Fun without a 'lofty' cost

The Lancaster arts scene is putting its collective talents together in an effort to benefit local non-profit organizations, thanks to a series of fundraising events that began in February.

Christina Chastain, gallery owner at Chastain’s Studio Lofts, said a very successful annual Christmas party and seven years of experience working with non-profit organizations were what started her thinking about how the gallery could do more to reach out to the community.

Renovated lanes give facility a new role

The bowling lanes at the Kershaw Recreation Center at Stevens Park are taking on a new life.
Thanks to a major renovation project, the lanes sport a more pleasing, modern look.
Back in February, Kershaw Town Council voted to allocate $118,330 from the town’s reserve fund for the bowling alley’s major improvements.
Town officials have considered ways to increase attendance at Stevens Park and use of its facilities, and the bowling alley has been a major part of those discussions.
