At our recent convention, a record-breaking turnout of Lancaster County Republicans elected a new slate of officers, giving me a second term as the county chair along with re-electing John Plyler as our treasurer and Diane Swofford as our secretary.
Also elected at the convention were several new faces: Brandon Newton as first vice chair, Jerry Holt as second vice chair and Earl Capps as state executive committeeman.

The suicide of Adams Lanza, the man who went on a killing rampage in Sandy Hook Elementary School, reminds me of Judas Iscariot, the disciple who killed himself after betraying Jesus. Both are examples or greed and mental illness.
My question is why are so many people buying guns since the Sandy Hook massacre? Yes, I know guns don’t kill. People do. And a bullet doesn’t have anyone’s name on it, so innocent people get killed.

Two Kershaw men remain behind bars a week after they were arrested in connection with a burglary spree in the southern end of the county.

Therine Junior Miller, 23, 141 Conally St., and Andre William Stewart, 21, 623 E. Richland St., were each charged April 25 with multiple counts of burglary related to a string of burglaries the week before, according to a Lancaster County Sheriff’s Office press release.

The National Weather Service in Columbia has issued a flood warning for portions of Lancaster County along the Catawba River until late Sunday, May 12, or until the warning is canceled.

According to the weather service, at 10 a.m. Thursday, May 9, the flood stage of Lake Wateree was at 101.9 feet.

Flood stage is the level at which a river, stream, ocean or other body of water has risen to cause sufficient inundation of areas not normally covered by water that threatens or causes inconveniences to life and property.
